Circuit City How the Once Mighty Have Fallen... and Back Again
Are you talking about American TV? As a consumer, their closing came as a shock. They always seemed to be doing well. It was disappointing, because they were a local business. Too many stores are closing. The industry needs more competition and consumers need more brick and mortar stores to...

Are you into using CD players or do you use other formats, and why?
For critical listening, vinyl. The only thing I use CDs for is to burn to mp3 so I can have background music for walking or other activities. I don't own a dedicated CD player and get all my CDs from the library.

Got a turntable and I don't get it.
I had a transistor radio, too. In grade school. In the 60s. When AM was still king, before FM started to take over. I outgrew that rather quickly. Now I don't even enjoy FM because the signal is so compressed. Or MP3, except for portability. And I don't enjoy the majority of CDs because it...

Got a turntable and I don't get it.
In a few older albums that I've listened to thousands of times? Sure. It's only natural, friction and all. But otherwise, no. I take good care of them, clean them, even put them in specially designed plastic sleeves. Albums shouldn't pop unless its a bad pressing. I still haven't really gotten...

Got a turntable and I don't get it.
See, now I had the opposite reaction. I loved vinyl. Never heard any rice krispie sound because I kept my records clean, and in fact, back then there was a spray marketed that helped coat the record from the friction caused by the needle sort of like those oil additives like Krex Graphite Engine...

Spotify Launches Play Button
I tried spotify, but couldn't figure it out. Seems it only played my music, so what was the point? I already have players.

Captain America
Saw this yesterday and really enjoyed it. After so many awful attempts at the character -- forget the 1940s serial -- the '70s TV version of a muscle-bound surfer dude who wore a motorcycle helmet and had a see-through plastic shield, to the 90s one that was true to the costume but was just a...

Deep-fried beer invented in Texas
At least with Guiness you won't be able to tell if they burned it. Not sure I'd want to try it with a quality beer though.

Plasma or LCD selection
You guys aren't convincing me to get an HDTV if I have to buy an extended warranty. I never bought one from my tube TVs and they've lasted for decades. Are you saying these new-fangled things don't last?

Considering searching for some used 901's
Back in the late 70s, when I was in the Navy, a friend in the barracks room next door had a pair of 901's, not sure what series, but he had a something like a 350 watt amp and he needed it to get anything out of them. But let me tell you, for party speakers, they were loud and they shook the...

When will standard DVD go extinct?
We still have CRT TVs in all our rooms. Our upstairs TV still has a DVD/VHS combo unit attached to it. Blu-Ray? Who can afford that? And what would be the point until we get a new TV? (Although we are looking at a 720p, except we don't know why since we'd have to pay more for cable to see...

Your first stereo
My first stereo as a teenager was a Realistic Clarinette III by Radio Shack. It was an all-in-one turntable with integrated amp and small bookshelf speakers. I think they were one-way speakers with something like one 6-inch speaker in each. Maybe an 8". I don't recall if it had a tweeter. I...

How vested are you in TV?
I guess we're very vested in TV. We hardly watch any OTA programs, mostly cable channels, Discovery, Science, Sci-Fi, Chiller, Sleuth, USA, FSN, AMC, TCM, and so on. Got rid of Netflix a couple years ago and I hardly ever go to Hulu.

Need a sub and center for about $300-$400 for both!
I agree with this. Put the whole budget towards a halfway decent sub. The two fronts can act as a phantom center.
