Yes, I would presume that setting the speakers to large and subwoofer to yes overrides that (at least in my 981).

Is it possible that the "RAW' setting only refers to the DD/DTS bitstream? You are probably correct that the HDMI audio is not bass managed; however it would be interesting to see whether you hear any difference if you set it up as recommended in the 980 manual for HDMI audio out (page 22)...

After careful research I have found that interconnects and speaker cables sound different (more expensive ones are ALWAYS better) only when the test CDs have the green marker mod done, and the CD player elevated with Shakti stones.:D

Dolby TrueHD is basically the same technology as DVD-Audio using Meridian Lossless Packaging (MLP) and upto 24 bit/ 192 kHZ sampling. Although not mandatory in the BluRay spec. (as it was the HD-DVD spec.) music on BluRay could/should be in Dolby TrueHD (or DTS MA - also, lossless).
