Polk R-300 - the difference a crossover makes

I've not seen or heard of an R500. The R50 seems to be the cream of the R series crop. It is available from Fry's all day long for $70 ea. It has tweeter on top, then two mids. TMM?

Polk R-300 - the difference a crossover makes

I am wondering the same thing as John L. asked in the external thread linked in the first post here. Could the Polk R50's crossover be reworked to provide improved performance? I ask because my brother and I just built crossovers for his Natalie P's. Neither of us ever really held a...

    Speaker level to line-level converter

Thanks for all the advice. Somebody on htguide forums is going to send me a schematic for a diy speaker level to line level converter. I guess this basically is attentuating the signal, ie: reducing amplitude and intensity of the signal. I'm looking a little further down the upgrade line...

    Speaker level to line-level converter

The receiver does have L/R tape outs. If I amped my front L/R speakers from these outs, would they still work when playing multi-channel audio, ie: dolby, dts, ect?

    Speaker level to line-level converter

I am kinda married to my receiver. I also don't want to spend $60 on a converter. Somebody online did this: I used a 10k Ohm resistor in series with a 470 Ohm resistor for a 20:1 attenuation. The speaker out is bridged by the series resistance (10k Ohm to +ve) and the RCA out is taken across...

    Speaker level to line-level converter

Here's my dilema, I have an Onkyo receiver with no pre-amp outs. I would like to get an external amp to power my front l/r speakers. And I don't want to get a new receiver. Searching the internet I have found a few options. One option seems to run my speaker outs into a...

I have come to the same conclusion after doing some research. Bi-amping I have learned is an entirely different story. Obviously, not even owning one amp...this isn't an option for me.:)

    How Awful Is This?

My receiver has Audyssey 2EQ. I Think that has helped my room sound somewhat decent thus far. Is this similar to the sub eq you mention. Or do you mean a graphics equalizer solely for the sub?

My main concern with being able to power my speakers sufficiently is with clipping. I really don't want to damage my speakers! Will I notice clipping right away? What will it sound like? Thanks so far, everyone on this board has been vary helpful.

    Killer bass movies

I live in the upstairs of a rental house. Watching Transformers, had me worried about the cops showing up the entire time. And my subwoofer is a far cry from being impressive.

    How Awful Is This?

This is the room I have my budget home theatre in. I have nowhere else to put it. I have heard square rooms are the absolute worst...so am I totally screwed? Edit: I can't post images yet, gonna have to double post. Sorry about this.

Yeah that's how I came up with the minimum 44 wpc. I don't know too much about watts, volts, ohms, ect. I was figuring that 44 wpc would be a minimum that any channel would ever get. Not sure how I would convert the FTC rating from 110 wpc on 2 channels to ? wpc on 5 channels. I do listen...

    Greetings Audioholics

The receiver is a HT-R550, and is FTC rated as follows: Rated Output Power (FTC) 110 watts minimum continuous power per channel, 8 ohm loads, 2 channels driven at 1kHz, with a maximum total harmonic distortion of .9% If I understand this correctly, running 5.1 I would be getting 44 watts...

    Greetings Audioholics

Hello, I'm a newcomer to the world of home theatre. I puchased the Onkyo SR HT800 htib. Since then, I have been planning on how to upgrade it. My first upgrade was purchasing 2 Polk R50's for $70 ea. These are my current L/R speakers, but will be moved to my surrounds in the near future. I...
