Z7 series speaker by BG corp

Any one ever auditioned Z7 series by BG Corporation. Electrostatic tower speaker at 700 a peice sounds very interesting, don't know about the sonic quality of the speaker though.

I don't think I have ever read a bad review, or forum post about BG Corporation. But I have never auditioned them myself.

MSRP on these was misquoted by the OP. MSRP is $500 a piece (not $700 each) = $1K per pair.

I absolutely LOVE the sound of BG products. The Planar Ribon is extremely unique. As a dealer of nearly two dozen speaker brands (RBH included) & having demo'd an incredible amount of speakers in many many different environments I can tell you this: Nothing, in my personal experience, captures my attention more than a BG speaker. The sound from one is amazing! One demo of Clapton's unplugged version of "Layla" will have you hooked.

That being said, it all totally depends on the type of system you're after, your listening environment, musical tastes, etc. etc.

My biggest issue with BG: While they're well built, BG's in-room pieces are very basic box speakers. Nothing special in the looks department.

Best in-walls & in-ceilings on the planet in my experience (this is a HUGE part of our business doing custom installs and I have tried nearly EVERYTHING). Best line-source speaker (a few of their in-walls can be considered this) I've ever heard for the consumer market.

BG doesnt make Electrostatic speakers, its a Planar Magnetic. My speakers employ BG planars (VMPS sourced the mid drivers from BG) and they make good products but never have been in the Electrostat business.

Addressing the BG inwalls...
While I'm sure they sound fantastic.... I have always been curious about good quality inwalls when I was searching for speakers for my bedrooms setup, my choices decidedly went in a different direction, going with Paradigm Signatures. I found it difficult to buy a speaker that didn't have a dedicated back box, or something that was manufactured without have an enclosure as part of the structure of the speaker.

Instead they recommend that you build your own back boxes for installation.

When speakers are built properly they are designed to a specific box enclosure size according to the specs of the drivers themselves... Now, I understand ribbons don't require an enclosure, the bass drivers should.

Now I'm really not trying to cr@p on BG here, but why does BG and other really high priced speaker companies choose not to use dedicated back boxes for the utmost in proper sound quality.

In regards to in-wall speakers, another HIGHLY PROBLEMATIC issue is that they couple with the wall, which is an extremely resonant structure in most cases(a solid concrete wall is another story). Unless the speaker has a special mechanical isolation system to prevent both acoustic back waves and physical born vibration from contacting the original wall structure, it is worthless for any high-fidelity use, regardless of the quality of drivers and crossover used in the speaker. Do any in-wall systems actually isolate both of these things? I do not know.

Now the Paradigm Sigs I bought certainly aren't the best speakers on the planet, but I would like to think they would be better then most any in-wall scenario out there... as far as HiFi goes... background music is another thing...
