I've been watching Chris Horner's "Butterfly Effect" a blog where he dissects bike races for a few years now.

Something new occurred in his vids at the beginning of the Tour De France. He started the video off by personally plugging a sponsor and showing off their products. Today however, not only did he start the vid with a plug, in the middle of his video he actually ran a commercial.

I've seen subtle plugs before in vids, though there's certainly nothing subtle here. But I've never seen someone put a commercial right in the middle of their own video.

I guess I figured this was against YouTube policy. YouTubers' are using the platform to make money off advertising. Not only that, if you're paying youtube for the service, you now have to watch ads!

I already don't go to YT as much as I used to because of the number of ads per minute watched. This could be the nail in the coffin for me to ever go there if it persists.

This isn't new, many youtubers do this. Not against policy but how it affects youtube monetization don't know.

Chris Horner, meh. They started feeding me the even worse Armstrong video podcast for the tour. Yuk.

Really? I've never seen an actual commercial being used within a YT vid. Plugs for products, yes, but never a full-blown commercial inserted in.

I generally like Horner's analysis. He actually talks about the important moments of the races and about how the team worked together - or didn't - to make it happen.

I tried to watch the Lance podcasts a couple of times, but always turned it off within the first few minutes. Raced against both of them back in the 90's. Seems like yesterday, except I'm slow now

Damn you must be pretty fast! I'd prefer Horner but find his presentation just grating, same as the Armstrong thing. Then again I can barely take the full extended results update on nbc with phil and bob :)

It seems like everyone does this now. Sometimes it's not so bad, but sometimes it ruins the video.
Yes, it is not new and that will be an automatic "next" button for me. I mean, I am sure YT gets money simply because the ad runs for 1 second, but I skip EVERYTHING skippable. When a content creator runs their own ads on their channel I would really have to be interested in what their content is offering not to move on. If I wanted stupid commercials, I would watch TV.

If you have premium, it's not that difficult to fast forward past any embedded ads. A little annoying, but not difficult.

I just use an ad-blocker.
I believe they are discussing in-video promotions performed by the Youtuber that are part of the video, not ads inserted by YT. There are no YT ads with Premium but Youtubers are free to promote whatever services they like. The "nice" ones will insert markers into their videos so that you know how far to advance ahead to skip the promo.

Ah, OK! I almost always sit on a PC when watching YouTube so that I can easily click to skip such parts, but of those it's just a "message from sponsor" with the YouTuber talking and not a replay of an ad. At least on what I watch.

You know, like how sports announcers have to randomly read off a sponsor plug. Those companies are now sponsoring content creators who have large enough viewership the same way. I get that they are making a living, but I am not interested in forced advertising. It makes it feel like they are just there to more to monetize and it is becoming less about the content. It takes away from whatever it is, even when it is relevant to what I am watching.

Yep, sometimes even an obvious segment to click on to the next content segment. Can't imagine using youtube without the premium subscription.

I use SmartTube for YouTube. (just regular YouTube)
I've never seen an ad or promotion....it skips right past them in an instant, and I have full control over video and audio quality. (even up to 8K if I had 8K)

Will have to look into that. Is Downloader or expanded memory needed?

ps a quick look at available app store apps on the fire stick doesn't show it as a choice

You can use a Downloader app on the FireStick to install it either by a link in the program or the apk file from USB.
They call this "side-loading"
It's really a super program...

This one way to install it.
