There are audio test CDs made specifically for this. Check out eBay. As above, Telarc CDs are good for this. Also look for anything produced by Sheffield Lab.

I think your FAVORITE songs are best.

Include plenty of acoustic recordings with female and male vocals to test the treble and midrange.

My favorite 3 TV Soundtracks are "Smallville", "The Deadzone", and "The 4400".

4400
01. Do the buildings and cops make you smile
02. Into the fire
03. A place in time
04. Shy baby
05. She will be loved

The Deadzone
06. Six feet under
07. Someone like me
08. Hallelujah
09. Tomorrow in her eyes
10. New Years Prayer
11. Beautiful Thing

Smallville
12. Island in the sun
13. Don't dream it's over
14. Time after time
15. Superman
16. Save me

Others: Walking after you, One headlight, Long december, New York City.

I'd second the poster who advised Jack Johnson - esp if you like acoustic guitar - since that's about all he plays. In my system I can clearly hear the rub of the fingers against the acoustic strings when he switches between chords - and it really gives a feel for the music - I think good speakers will reveal that detail. And a lot of his music has some good bass built in as well.

Otherwise, I always feel that good blues is always a good measure and for that - Stevie Ray Vaughn - Texas Flood.

Also, someone earlier mentioned Dire Straights - Brothers in Arm's - the whole CD really. But my fav is the actual song Brothers in Arms followed closely by Latest Trick.

I have been using Saint-Säens' Danse Macabre for testing. A wide array of orchestral tones to chose from.

hi, as the title suggests, what are the songs you play to test your speaker clarity and response ?? i need some more ideas to put my new ones through their paces ??

So far they have been performing brilliantly for the music i normally listen to, classical to rock to video game sound tracks.

But maybe you would like to list me your favorites that send the chills down your back when even you listen to it

cheers
Test your speakers with the music you enjoy, not someone elses. Each person's listening experience is unique and cannot be replicated.
