A whopping 89% of consumers confess they lack understanding the full benefits of HD content, both the positive and the negative. Patrick Dunn, director of display technology at THX thinks he knows why "Watching TV these days can be terribly complicated."

Deep in the THX lab facility in California, Dunn and his team are working on a solution to make Average Joe feel confortable with his new TV. Code named BLACKBIRD, THX is working with movie studios and other providers to embed information tags in their content that can be recognized by high-def TV sets to make on-the-fly automatic adjustments to parameters such as: picture modes, sound level, contrast levels and other adjustments to max out picture quality. All this will be done for you without having to lift a finger, Dunn claims that it's so seamless that the viewer can't see the changes occuring. This will be a welcomed reprieve for he 89% owners of HD TV that barely know how use their remote much less adjust for picture quality.
