Hello all you Yammy fans out there! I have an itch to scratch.

I have the 2400, I am one of the rare (i think) people who likes and uses multiple DSP modes for different applications.
I'm curious to know who actually utilizes the bevy of DSP on there Yammies, and which DSP's do you prefer for which application.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only DSP lover out there or if there are more people like me. My thinking is, Use em, if ya Got em!

Oh yeah, and which DSP's do you think they could have done without, and possibly added more desirable features. (HDMI, dual sub outs, etc.)

Hey die hard yammy,

I have the Yami 1400 and I actually used the Hall setting today. I was home for lunch and put on Classical through Sirius and it really sounded good. I usually don't listen to that much Classical but today for some reason I stopped on that station. I am using a pair of B&W 604S3's with it. The announcer between songs sounded like crap though.

I have the 2500.

I never use any of the "Music" modes when listening to music. Not to say my wifes doesn't though, she probably does.

I do however use the "Adventure" mode in Movies (unless it's a THX disc and I use the THX mode). I happen to like the sound after the processing of movies in either of these modes.

For TV I usually use one of the DolbyIIX modes in Surround Enhanced mode.

I happen to like the DSP modes, which is something I *NEVER* thought I'd say.

Don't care for 'em. I listen in the mode intended set flat.

I have the 2500 as well.

The only DSP I use consistantly is the TV Sports. Brings the crowd into the room! I am not into the music halls and others though I will play with the movie modes for fun. Typically I have TV on PLIIx Movie and music on PLIIx Music. I am more than thrilled with this advance. I don't use 7 channel as much as I used to use 6 channel stereo on my old RX V-1000 because of PLIIx.

I have the 2400 and love some of the DSPs. For flicks I prefer Spectacle and Adventure... for old classic flicks I love the PLIIx Movie mode. For music I use mostly the 2-channel stereo, quite a bit of the PLIIX Music and DTS Neo modes.. love to watch flicks recorded in DTS for the full in-your-face bass. I don't think I hardly ever used the jazz, rock or any of those music DSPs. :)

I use PLIIx Music for music, but normally Surround Enhanced for movies. I may turn on Spectacle for big blockbuster movies.

I really like the PLIIx music mode for stereo CDs. That infatuation took a while to take hold. I was a purist, I felt if it was recorded in 2 channel it should be heard that way. Not true. Taking nothing away from Pure direct, I still do use it for the more powerful music when I just want to feel the drums and bass hit me. But PLIIx seems to bring out more depth to music.
For movies; PLIIx movie. The TV theatre and movie selections just give too much reverb for my taste.

I pretty much use spectacle whenever DTS or THX isn't on the DVD. The rest (esp the music ones) are really a waste of time in my opinion.

Yamaha DSP Modes

I've got the RX-V2200 and I use most of the DSP modes and really enjoy doing so. :)
I use the 6 channel stereo mode almost daily.
I frequent the Rock Concert mode almost as much.
I really like Yamaha recievers!!

Use "Adenture" for most TV programs with indoor/outdoor scenes (CSI's, LOST, 24, etc) and for movies

Use "General" for most studio type programs.

Use "Spectacle" for Concerts (Elton John's DVD), Chris Isaac TV Xmas Concert and use that DSP for Sports (NFL and Nascar)

Use flat "DTS" for DTS Music discs (Hell Freezes Over, Eagles) or "Dolby Digital" 5.1 for DVD-A on basic DVD player (Steely Dan's Everything Must Go)

Use Concert Hall for good signers on CD and use "Music Videos" for a Music Video channel.

WOW, Thanks a lot for all you replies, i wasn't excpecting such positive feed back regarding DSP's.

I mostly use DTS NEO:6 dec PLXII for TV, DTS Enhanced/DD enhanced EX/ES for movies, 2ch or 7 ch stereo for music, THX EX or THX + DTS.

I kinda hafta agree with LEPRKON with most of the music DSP's, they pretty much are a waste of time, but whatever rings your bell I guess!

Does anyone find that movies are the one thing that you really can experiment with different DSP's and find one that suits a particular film. I find that not all movies work well with the same DSP mode, each movie has it's own little nuance that allows you to tweak it with DSP's IMO.

I have the RX-V440 and i use the movie modes more than the music.

Here are the modes I use on the Yamaha:

Concert Hall-for classical music
Jazz Club- for certain jazz songs
Music Video- well for videos :p
6 channel stereo

the 70mm Home Theater modes- Adventure, Sci-Fi, etc
the Enhanced Pro Logic, DTS, Dolby Digital
and of course the PLII and Neo:6

I dont use the Rock Concert mode and sometimes use the Game mode and Disco.

I would love for Yamaha to bring back stadium mode like the one I had on my
RX-V2095 :( And I would like for Yamaha make a Enhanced version of Dolby Pro Logic II and IIx.

Besides my baby (2400) I also own the HTR 5460 (2001 model) which I use for two channel in my bedroom. I love this receiver as it was my first, which i used for movies when I first got it. I love the 70 mm spectacle DSP, which makes me wonder why they didn't keep it on the newer models, RXV or HTR. Anyone have a clue?

Something I don't have is an S-VHS player, because I started my movie collection a few years before DVD, I have an abundance of great VHS films with great soundtracks, although I have converted some to DVD. I usually select ProLogic II DSP's for VHS, I'm just curious as to what anyone else in my position is using in terms of DSP's to maximize thier VHS.

with movies with THX I just use the THX settings. I watch ladder 49 the other night and it was awesome.

for my ipod I use 2 channel mostly, sometimes 7 ch and when I just feel like sitting in front of the stereo I use pure direct and just blast the hell out of it.

for movies that aren't THX I haven't really found one setting that made me think "MAN this is the setting I am sticking with", most of the time I just use general, sometimes adventure. since I have a 7.1 setup I use PLIIx and Nero:6

I also use the game setting for my Xbox

When it comes to DSP's for gaming (i have XBOX modded) because XBOX is DD 5.1, I treat gaming like a movie due to the digital quality. I use DD Surr Enhanced EX to give you that 5.1 feel out of seven channels, it's phenominal for HALO 2 and GTA 3/Vice or any Game for that matter.

If you think that mode is great, you should try the Stadium mode my 2095 had!
It was great, especially when you use it the stadium mode with dolby digital!

but try the tv sports mode with dolby digital. :D :D

I use DPIIx for both movies and music. I've used Enhanced occasionally for DD5.1 sources but I couldn't really tell the difference.

I have a question that might be overly obvious; maybe I am dumb for asking.

When a DVD is THX, this should be the setting on your receiver, same would go for DTS? Is this right and by using another DSP modes to decode with when the DVD is coded with one of theses will you be taking away from the sound quality or some effects?

To be honest I own a RX-V2500 and usually watch movies in the spectacle DSP mode. I have switched between several deferent settings and the deference in sound is marginal there is some deference’s but unless you are switching back and forth between modes I may never notice. ;)

I used to have a Yamaha 795a and when I used "Spectacle" on the movie The Haunting DTS, "Coming mother" scene the woofer/midrange in my PSB Image 5T's front speakers were moving bigtime! as in it scared the s--t out of me... none of the other DPS modes did that. I now have a Yamaha 2500 but use "Adventure" for most movies...I think Spectacle sounds better.... more bass even without the sub VS. the other DPS modes... but I don't want to damage my speakers.
