Yammie 663 Trouble???????

If you want to hear sound from all the speakers when listening to a regular cd, then you need to select 7 channel stereo, or 7 channel enhancer, or you can use the Pro Logic II decoder, otherwise you will only hear stereo sound.

Glocks, got to mess with things a bit today. It says Dolby Digital on the receiver when I watched "Cleaner" today. I tried to change it but to no avail. I can hit the enhancer button and get 2CH or 7CH. When I do, I can hear my FXiA4;s much better with 7CH. With just the Dolby Digital showing I can barely hear my FXiA4's. I can also hit the straight button but not much changes. I can see Neo:6 I think every now and then after it shows Dolby Digital. Sometimes, on a few of the movies it will say PCM when it is loading. Why can I not change the soundfield?

You can change the soundfield, just press the amp button then hit the 1 or 2 button at the bottom of the remote to select between the sound programs.

“Cleaner” is in Dolby Digital so that sounds correct. Most people don’t add any additional soundfields. And many movies don’t have a lot of surround effects. Are you sure you’re watching the right movies? J/K The opening sequence of SW – Revenge of the Sith has good all around effects. Attack of the Clones where the bounty hunter shoots the dart has a definite sound from the right surround.

The pod racer scene is one of the best for demoing equipment, and has lots of surround effects, and its a fairly lengthy scene that would be good for testing your stuff.

I just read some of your posts and realize that you are unable to enjoy your A3 in multi-channel mode. I have not read the manual of the 663 yet but I would suggest you play one of your HD disc, select one of the multi-channel audio mode, and watch your 663 display carefully and see if it displays PCM multi-channel or something to that effect. If it displays "analog" then that could be the problem. You might have assigned the video input correctly to HDMI but inadvertently set the audio input to analog. Did you hook up the analog audio outputs on the A3?

No, the A-3 is ONLY connected to my 663 via hdmi and then from the 663 to my LCD via hdmi. I do have, my LCD audio out connected to my 663 via an optical cable. I will put in an HD DVD maybe tomorrow as work was hectic today. Just really tired. Once I do, I will get back to ya peng. Thanks for your help my friend.

The 663 has so many (way too many for what I need) bells and whistles it is easy to mess something up without knowing, and then it would take time and luck to figure it out eventually. Before you get too frustrated, you may want to do a re-initialization as a last step before exchanging it for another one.

Yeah, I plan to do just that. I will also calibrate the FXiA4's a little hotter than the rest of my speakers. This should help some. I have to re-do everything anyways as I just got a new TV stand. I also have a second LFM-1Plus coming soon. However, once I get it straightened out, things should sound stellar.

If I do upgrade receivers, chances are it will be the new Pioneer 1018 OR perhaps a Yammie 1800. There a few others I have been looking at including the Denon 2808CI or the Elite 92. Have also noticed that HK has just released some new receivers as well. I will check them out as well. Thanks for your help Peng.

Peng, I put in an HD DVD movie today and it showed PCM. I was able to change my soundfields by doing just as Glocks recommended me doing. However, I still don't really hear my FXiA4's too well. At times, they are more noticeable. If I put it in 7CH Stereo mode I can easily hear them. Just not getting that wrap around effect I prefer for some reason. The PCM icon was also lit up on my receiver. The sound is noticeably better with an HD DVD. I had to turn my sub way down for one thing.......LOL!!!!!

When, I get around to putting my new tv stand in my ht room I will calibrate the FXiA4's 2-3 db higher. Hopefully, this will help. However, for some reason I am just not too motivated today. But, I will get back to you on it. Once again, thanks for your help as well as everyone else that has offered some tips.

Oh am I ever tempted. But, have no money.............LOL!!!!! I just bought (2) LFM-1Pluses and will be broke for a while. I agree, the Yammie 1800 is looking very good at this point in time as is the Denon 2808CI. I will have to do my ht room over once my second LFM-1 Plus gets here. This will also allow me to integrate my new tv stand. Just have not been too motivated today. Thanks once again for your help.
