Will just like my title says.
i made a big mistake on getting this subwoofer. for one iv tested it at my local bestbuy store and it sounded good. but when i got it home and hook everything up and tune in it sounds good but it doesn't feel up the room. i have it in a corner and when i sit in the center of my ht room it sounded flat. but when i either 2 sides of the corner of the room it sounds nice and tight. so if your were thinking of getting this please don't get a front firefing sub because they feel up the hole room. When i switch from a downfireing sub to a front fireing sub i could tell a big difference. iv got a Infinity PS-12 from crutchfield. but i would get that 215 a 2 out of 5 stars. but when i tune my new sub in the ps-12 the bass sounds strong in all of my room. even in the center of the room. but anyway there is my review on that 215.

It has nothing to do with front firing. Front firing vs down firing doesn't really make much difference, but a quality sub does, and Yamaha's less expensive subs aren't really top notch. Your rating may be fair because it is sort of an entry level sub, but don't knock it just because you made a purchase you didn't like. Calibration and placement can be a large factor too.

.....I wouldn't touch that last part for gold....so, front-firing fills up the room....I guess the crime is revealed....and, what you feel along with hear, is from the dispersion of a directly-radiating cone, that you are in....down-firing initiates with a bounce, and that bounce bounces how many times before it gets to you?....this ain't like 901's reflecting off the wall, or piezo drivers on metal bells bouncing off ceilings....this is down where the rubber meets the road, mister....and hooray, this is down where you can hear and "feel" individual oscillations....some will swing out of the rafters on this one, but with down-firing, you really don't feel the oscillations, or at least I didn't with the down firing ones I have listened to....the pitch was all around me, but I really didn't "feel" it....the cleanest oscillations are, if you're in that initial cone of dispersion, and you relate, as you "feel", inside that cone of best-chances-for-clean.....

.....many love their down-firing....I say hooray for that too....I want two front-firing, split, forming a directional, who cares if it's directional?, layer across the front, low, supporting the soundstage, as do the surround speakers support the soundstage....now if I'm wrong for that, guys, I'll go quietly.....

.....somebody mentioned Kroger tonight....guys, listen, go to Kroger and get a two liter Big K Peach drink, and they're cheap, you can catch them 2 for a buck....stick it in the icebox and forget it a couple of days....then pull it out of the icebox to drink over ice with ANYTHING grilled outside, and you'll want to slug it when you first get up....excellent taste, and just enough carbonation....I love to slug it first-off, when my eyes ain't workin' yet.....soooo good.....

After all these months of searching, probing, angst, and longing, have you NOT gotten your cannons, yet?! Though, I guess having two of the biggest, baddest subwoofers in all the land, too, would fall prey to I-need-more-upgrade-itis. Wouldn't it?

And Mulie, we're taking away your period (dot) priveleges.........;)

.....RJBudz, Bob can use different 8 inch woofers in the black scruffies to be used for centers high-and-low, that will give a little more low-end....I'm looking at all angles at this point....the small cannons, beside their cost to build, will bring the need for another K2 and a Behringer 2496 active EQ....I hate to waste money....dots are free, haha..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

.....DDigitalGuy, I applaud your having learned to be patient laying out money for audio components....if nothing else, you will be more concrete in your wish to purchase, and more pleased and content with the purchase.....

yst-215 here

Ya I did same thing. I went and got the 5.1 Axiom setup I wanted and a decent recvr. But skimped on the sub. The good thing is I'm very happy with it all in a 12 x 12 den. 100.00 sub what could I ask of it? Well its great for the money. front controls, down fire w/ great dispersion and 100 watts which is plenty for this room. Ya the sub cabinet resonates at the highest volumes. But honestly didnt want a 300-400 sub cuz after reading here I want the Axiom EP500 or an SVS and any of those subs would be a waste in this room. So I say buy a YAM sub but dont expect it to compete with a 12" model by anybody.

OK, So only front-firing drivers will "feel" up a room? Will they feel up my girlfriend? JK, I have no girlfriend. lol.

anywho...

I like the yamaha subs. Even the small YST-005 sounded nice. The biggest one I have heard was the 315, or 320. Very nice, great for jazz (DUH, yamaha :) )

but they only work great with yamaha recievers.... theres special connection that send the signal twice as fast. twice the speed of light!.......Disregard that.
