I am hoping to get feedback from anyone who is using this product and the best way for connectivity using HDMI
connections. It was suggested to keep the connections I have made to the back of the HDTV and just use the audio
connection to the YSP-4000. In this case optical digital cable.
What I am using is a HDMI connection from the satellite
reciever to the back of the HDTV and a HDMI connection
from a Blu-Ray to the back of the HDTV.
In looking at the connection diagram that came with the YSP-4000 the connections go directly from the HDTV and the DVD products to the YSP-4000.
I want to get the best audio and video output so any
suggestions would be appreciated.:)
Thanks
Ed

Sorry it took so long to reply. I just registered here and just saw your post.
I don't think it makes much difference. The advantage of taking both HDMI connections into the YSP-4000 and then taking the one HDMI output to the display is ease of control. When you switch from cable to DVD or back, you won't have to change both the display input and the Yamaha input, just the Yamaha input. The Yamaha strips the sound out of the HDMI signal and passes the video to display. I don't think there's any other difference, since your two sources are both (I assume) doing any necessary upconversion

I'm picking up a YSP-4000 tomorrow and have the same components ae the OP. I happened upon this thread and would like to know if the 4000 will pass the Blu-Ray's 1080p video without loss after stripping the audio from the Blu-Ray's HDMI cable?

I appreciate the links, but none of them provided an answer to my specific question.

Thanks anyway...

As a point of closure on my question, Yamaha Tech Support informed me that the YSP-4000 will pass the Blu-Ray's 1080p video without any degradation (after 'stripping' the audio off of the Blu-Ray's HDMI feed).
