Yamaha V863 Audio/Video Dropouts

Howdy all ... first post and glad to be with you all here.

Here's the set up:

50" Samsung DLP 1080P (HDMI from Receiver)
Yamaha RX-V863 Receiver (HDMI to TV, HDMI from DVD, HDMI from Sat.)
Samsung Upscaling DVD (HDMI to Receiver)
DirecTV (HDMI to Receiver)
Sony 300+1 CD Changer (Optical to Receiver)

Everything is working great except DVD viewing. About every 4 mins., I get a VERY brief audio AND video drop. Happens on all DVDs. I haven't done much trouble shooting yet. Most seem to say to change the HDMI cable first but all have reported that never seems to work. I'm wondering if there is a incompatibility or incorrect setting perhaps. Before tearing everything apart, I thought I'd rely on my new friends here and tap some of you for some thoughts.

Again, everything except DVD viewing is great. It is ONLY occurring with DVD playing and about every 4 min. Probably a 1/4 second drop on both audio and video ... maybe less. I'm hoping that because it is a relatively new receiver, perhaps there is some sort of fixable configuration or firmware issue.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thank you all

Jeff

I don't know the answer, but I wanted to welcome you and bump your thread so that maybe someone who knows the answer will see it.

Component

That is the first thing I have on my list of things to test. I'll do it and let you know.

Hi jeff. The exact same thing has happened to me with th v863. After bout 5 minutes into any dvd, the image plus sound would drop out for about half a second. On a forum somewhere i read to power up the tv first, followed by the amp and the dvd player last of all, this was to sort out any HDMI handshaking issues. Unfortunately though the problem wasnt solved. Although i havent yet got a drop in video, the audio still drops for less than a second bout 5 minutes into a dvd. It even happened today whilst playing he xbox. I initially thought it was the dvd player, but since im pretty sure i heard a sound drop in the xbox game, it must be the amp. It is starting ti irritate me as i cant find a solution Maybe a need a firmware update? But where can we find one of those??

Later today I'm going to switch out to component cables as it is the first thing on my list to try. If that doesn't work, I'll also swap the HDMI cable. Then, I'll report back. Another trusted source has said that Samsung DVD players are notorious for this type of thing ... just odd problems in general. I do plan on upgrading to Blu-Ray (probably Panasonic) in the next few months and I have a feeling that the problem will go away then .... IF it is the fault of the DVD player. The only thing I worry about, like you, is if it is in my Yammie.

I'll report back

Jeff
