Yamaha V661 Question

I'm a far cry from an audio expert, so I relied on the guy at Best Buy to point me in the right direction on this V661. Looks like it will work great with my set up. Just curious, though, is there a way I can connect my laptop to this to play my song lists I have on Napster or on my computer? There is no USB port to connect to.

You can use a 3.5mm to RCA (male) cable and connect it to any of the stereo inputs on the back of the 661 (CD, AUX, etc.).

Thanks. I think I have one of those cables around someplace. That just connects to the headphone jack on the computer then? Will I get okay sound quality?

Yes, the SQ won't be mind blowing, but it should be fine for MP3 playback and such.

Avoid the headphone out if at all possible. You want to use the line-out (usually color coded green) if it it exists.

Most laptops don't feature line level outputs. The headphone output terminals on most laptops are acceptable for non-critical listening.

It is true that 'most' don't. Mine does. Use whatever is available, but given the choice one should choose the line-level out over the headphone out.

does your laptops sound card give the option of telling it what the output will be, ie headphone switched to spdif or lineout?
