YAMAHA T-17 FM tuner

I have a reliable but elderly FM tuner which recently has an iritating problem of dropping the FM signal from the antenna. All external connections are checked and I can't relate any improvement from shaking, hitting or pounding. It has a good audio connection initially and then unexpectedly drops after a few minutes. Temperature related? Since I'm relatively good at fixing things I need some quidance from those who are familiar with these older models. What's the next step (euthanasia not accepted)?

Try to remove the cabinet, turn it on and with a non conducting stick pock around the antenna terminals on the inside. You may have a cold soldering joint there or at the next connection point.
