Is the top of the line always the best or worth the extra cost? Example, Yamaha has these Sub-woofers:

150W 8" YSTSW215 $149
270W 10" 315 $299
Top 12" 415 $999

With the 110w 2400 will 10" be good enought or if I can afford it is 12" a LOT better, or just a little better? There is a big price jump!

All depends on your room size and personal prefference, for HT the rumbling bass is always the WOW! factor.

I have seen the Yamaha YST-SW1500 for as low as $500 on e-bay so do check that source out.

I have a NHT sub I got from Yawa. You will get a FULL warranty because they are authorized to sell. I was shocked by the rumble that came out of this jewel. I used to have two Cerwin Vega 12's, and this one NHT SW-12 is more than twice as good.

I have the 315. From $300 to $900 is a big jump and if you want to spend $900 there are better sub-woofer from specilaist sub-woofer makers. The 315 is excelent value, 250w for $300, and that is why I got it.

Between $500 and $1000, a yamaha sub probably wouldn't be on my short list. I beleive they make nice receivers, some amps, cd players, etc., but their loudspeakers are not necessarily their strong point. If you MUST go with a yammy sub, get at least a newer YST800 model equivilent or higher.
