Yamaha, Sony or Philips......which 1 to choose

Hello guys & gals,

M new to this community.........so starting a new thread..........m gonna buy a 5.1 or 7.1 A/V receiver with 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set nd gonna hook it up wid ma pc..........initially i will use analog m/c inputs for the receiver......but soon m gonna buy new sound card wid optical or coaxial output..........i have 19" LCD monitor wid HDMI input........ma budget is 25k to 30k INR max.......nd ma room size is 12' x 14'..............plz suggest me a good 5.1 or 7.1 A/V receiver @ this price range & also plz mention where can i get from Kolkata............

I don’t have a clue what is available in India, or what the pricing is like there. If you could provide links to any online retailers that you would consider purchasing from or websites for brick and mortars in your area, I would be more than happy to look at what’s available, and provide an opinion.

Just based on the three options you’ve provided thus far, I would probably just by the most expensive Yamaha within your budget.

The system that you linked to is similar to, but older than, the Yamaha YHT-195 home theater in a box set.

I'd suggest that you contact your local Kolkata dealer and ask how much the YHT-195 costs. Your local dealer is Harmony House and can be reached at +91-33-2229 8004. You can get more information about them by going to Yamaha's India site and clicking on "Where to Buy" at the top.

I asked them few days earlier...........they offered me 33.5k INR for YHT-195............i think its overpriced..............can u plz temme any other shop where i can get yamaha A/V receiver...........nd also tell me will this YHT-195 sound good for my room............???

It's not one of those brands, but Denon has a distributor in India. Here's a link:

That is a hard question- it depends on import duties/taxes, local market conditions, money conversion rates, etc. I would definitely contact the distributor to find a dealer and then do the same with Yamaha. If you have a way to see them and find out what differences exist in whether you prefer the operation of one over the other, you'll be happier with what you buy.

As a general rule of thumb, I would pick Yamaha over Sony & Phillips.

Just like I would pick NHT, HSU, Aperion, Emotiva, and SVS over Bose.

actually i want the best system @ my price range i.e. 30k max..............my importance will be on input/output nd sound quality.................so brand will hardly matter to me..............

dude, which place r u from? yesterday i checkd denon dht-390xp @ ezone bangalore.. sounds gr8 compared to onkyo-3100 (though i cldnt try comparing it with onkyo-3200 which was not available for demo). they offered denon @ 30k. You can try that. while lemme check yamaha.

Just like I would pick NHT, HSU, Aperion, Emotiva, and SVS over Bose.

I'd pick Sony over Bose though.
