Yamaha RXV2500 SVideo problem

After about 3 months of owning this great receiver I'm having problems with its svideo circuitry. All my video componets are interconnected with svideo, all the way to the monitor. All the video signals that I see on my monitor now are of a VERY poor signal quality (washed out colors, noisy, blurred images) EXCEPT for the signal that comes out of the GUI mode, which is perfect. Weird!

So, no matter whether it's the DVD, VCR or my Media PC, those images will be basically un-watchable now. But the GUI picture is crystal clear as it always was. I haven't touched my configuration in any way.

Any ideas of what's going on with my V2500? Anybody else having problems with video?

Thanks!

Have you played with togling upconversion on and off??

You can find this in Manual Setup\Option\Display then Video Conv.

Page 62 of the manual (is in the pdf anyway)

Good luck.

Svideo problem

Yep, I've tried that and it doesn't go away :(

Obviously, the output Svideo stage circuitry works because I'm getting a clear signal from the GUI mode. But anything connected to an Svideo input doesn't output right. And there shouldn't be any conversion either; this is strictly a switching thing. I'm puzzled.

Like many of you, I use and enjoy this receiver every single day, mostly for music. I use it weekly serveral times for movie watching, with fantastic results in the way of sound performance. If the Svideo switching circuitry is bad altogether, maybe I'll resort to some external (economical) Svideo switch... any recommendations?

One thing I haven't tried is component output, which would involve up-conversion. Unfortunately, I don't have a monitor to try that.

One last thing, has anybody tried the software interface through the RS232 port? Does it do any video adjustments/resets?

Thanks for any help!

Guanche..
I had my computer input to the receiver via S-Video and the picture was as good as it was going to get at the time - same picture as plugging the S-Video from the computerdirect to the TV.
I have a sneaking suspicion you need to get your baby looked at.....

The software interface just lets you change all the settings that you can change on the receiver from a nice GUI on your computer - see the other thread that’s about "rxv1500 receiver editor"...

Problem gone... for now

Well, guess what, last night the Svideo signals decided to come back! No shaking anything, no wiggling any cables, no resetting anything... just like that: turn on the receiver as usual, turn on the monitor and... presto! perfect picture!

Having a background in technology and computers, this, of course, bugs me. When is this going to happen again? Why did it happen in the first place? What fixed it? I truly love the functionality and sound quality of this receiver, but reliability needs to be there first. From now on I'll turn on the receiver wondering if the video circuitry is working right... you know the feeling.

And who knows, maybe the receiver is totally ok and it's something that I've done or an external component that's causing this problem. I'm just a very meticulous person when it comes to technical details and I feel (should say used to feel) pretty comfortable with this particular setup.

I'll report back to this thread if I encounter further problems with this, but I would love to hear if others are having similar issues

If the problem returns, you may wish to try disconnecting all but one S-video input. See if that particular input now looks good at the output. If it does, you are on the way to possible recovery since you might have a bad cable on one of the other inputs. If you don't see a good outp, disconnect that input and try a different input. The idea is to try and narrow it down to a particular input. I am thinking that an intermittent input cable or its device may mess with the input section so badly that they all appear bad. This idea might be based on bad science since I don't have a schematic, but I think it would be something I would try if I were having this problem. Of course be sure to power off while you are in the act of pulling cables and reconnecting. Good luck.

Thanks!

Jim M... thanks for the suggestion, I never thought of a bad cable disrupting the whole Svideo input circuitry, but you are right, this is not just mechanical switching, where all inputs are kept isolated except for one.

We'll see what happens.
