all the stores I've been to say there isn't much of a difference once you get to th $1000 price range. If you have an opinion on this I would like to hear it before I decide on which one to get.

They are both great AVRs. Do they both have the features you want and need? If they do then I would get the cheapest one.

(I would get the Yammy simply because I am a Yamaha fan)

It's a mixed bag. The Yamaha would do better for movies, the Denon is notorious for their excellent music handling. Yamaha has 2 more hdmi inputs, Denon has a better calibration system.

I'm big on Movies So that's good to know. when you say Calibrations. Are you RE: to the audio mic set up. Is the Yamaha calibration very bad or simply does not work as well?

Denon may have an edge to the auto-cal but dont let that be a deciding factor. A cal disc and SPL meter is how you properly calibrate a system.

As far as one or the other being better at music vs. movies, it's incorrect. They will both be fine.

Both receivers are great in this category. But, I'd lean a bit towards the Denon just b/c of the Audyssey correction system which can make a significant difference in your setup. Check my review of the AVR-2308CI as a reference.

That being said the Onkyo TX-SR805 is another top contender that rings in a few hundred cheaper than the Yammie and Denon, has a meatier amp section, included Audyssey but is a bit less sophisticated in video upconversion features and component video bandwidth.

Tough choices :D
