I just recently purchased a Yamaha 7.1 receiver and have a Bose 5.1 Acustomas (sp?) Speaker system. Should I purchase two more Bose speakers or purchase a Yamaha 5.1 reciever? If I should purchase a new receiver, do the Yamaha 5.1's come in a dual zone? Does it matter if I have 5 speakers hooked up to a 7.1 reciever?

it doesnt matter that you are installing 5.1 speakers on a 7.1 receiver.
no problems there.

what do you mean buy another 5.1 receiver? can you send the 7.1 back without loss of money?

can you send the bose back? ;) ;)

Good receiver

I recently purchased the HTR-5860 which is identical to the RX-V657, 1 step down from your receiver. The assignable amplifier channels will allow you to use your receivers "surround back" channels for any of the following:
1. Surround back sepakers in 7.1 configuration.
2. Presence speakers in the front of the room.
3. Zone 2 speakers on the patio or in another room.

These days, 5.1 channel receivers tend to be low end models, so I wouldn't worry about exchanging the receiver. There is plenty of information on this site about speaker and subwoofer configuration and options.

jcpanny is right. The 757 is a great receiver. Your manual will tell you how to hook up the speakers for 5.1. (Like what JCpanny is talking about)

You can not have the Bose system you are talking about in 7.1. Those speakers MUST go through the Base Box for them to work right. (And survive I might add!) And there are only enought inputs for 5 on the box.

Blessed,
Jim

PS: MOST people's houses and sofa set up do not permit 7.1 systems anyways. And a good 5.1 system will blow the doors off a 7.1 that does not have the speakers in the right places. JFYI

Yamaha 7.1 receiver

Snap, JC panny, and Mike C,

Thanks so much for your reply. I did not know how to view the replies to my original thread, so I posted another. Sorry! Your information gave me a piece of mind.

After skimming the manuel, I only saw one 5.1 config in the owners manual where it said press AMP to select the AMP mode, the press EXTD SUR ont he remote control to switch between 5.1 and 6.1/7.1-channel playback. Are you sure I did not waste my money?

What happened was I was supposed to get the RX-V657 and the Audio Visual Specialist rep said he was out an automatically sent out a RX-V757, charging me $100.00 more. He said it was worth every penny because it had the capability to utilize components. Was he telling me a story to make a better sale or is he telling the truth? Please help!

#1. Do not pay that extra hundred bucks. Even if the unit is worth it he did it with out even asking. Keep the unit and the hundred and tell him to shove it. He sound like you will not get good service or info from him anyway.

That is bull crap! I agree with the post above. Tell him you wanted a 657 and 5 watts is not worth a hundred bucks. Also tell him that you are keeping the 757 and he needs to give you back a hundred bucks. If that does not fly tell him to come and get all his crap and give you a refund. I can see him sending you the 757 and charging you only for he 657. That is ok. But to do it with out asking and charge you for it that is wrong. Besides it will only take 2 days to get the 657 in anyways. (Provided they are not on back order. Which they are NOT!)

Bull Crap.....just BS.

Man that will make a preacher cuss right there.

Sorry to hear that.
