Howdy. I have a RXV-4600 & just hooked up a Sony 52" LCD; Sony 52" BluRay and a DirecTV HD receiver/recorder all with the HDMI. Now my screen on the Yamaha says "GUI" when I try to enter the setup mode. It will not go any further into the setup mode with the HDMI conectors plugged in. There has got to be something I am missing on the settings...? Any insight into this wopuld be REALLY appreciated. What does the GUI do etc..?
thanks, John

GUI means graphic user interface. It is the display that comes through to your television showing the functions of the manual set-up and other features.

The problem is that model will not show the GUI through HDMI connections.
To be able to see the GUI you will need to use either an composite or S-video cable to another connection to you TV. Component may work, but I don't think so.

Problem is, I can't change settings without disconnecting the HDMI's in order to use another connection device. Any ideas how to simplify things?
Many thanks!, John

Sorry if I misunderstood.
What settings can't you change?
I assume all of this worked before the HDMI connections?
I've looked through the manual and nothing really jumps out at me.
Just a thought, hook up a alternate connection to the TV (Composite/S-video), change your input selection to something other than the BD player, make sure the input is set to "auto", then try entering set-up.

Frankly, I'm a bit new to the HDMI game myself, so I'm throwing darts here.

I FINALLY got a response from Yamaha.
I am not able to change, bass, trebble, sound parameters, etc., as it won't let me access the controls.
The Yamaha tech lad said to hook up component cables directly to the TV, then choose "component" on the TV source. That should "Key word, SHOULD" allow me to view the menus for adjustments of various atributes.
Whew. This HT stuff will drive a person crazy. Thanks for your help.
Now let's see if it works.
