Yamaha rxv 2500 Vs htr 5890

Hi,
I am very new to this site and quality audio itself. I just bought Klipsch Speakers and am looking to hook them to a good receiver. This is where the dilemma is. Which is a good receiver for the money? I know it is very subjective as many people say on these forums, but still any additional information would help. What is the main difference beween Yamaha htr 5890 and rxv 2500, apart from a few connectors. My other options include Pioneer Vsx 1015 and Denon AVR 3805. All of them are very closely priced. $100 apart from each other I think, if I buy online. Will there be a big difference in sound quality beween Denon and Pioneer or Yamaha. My use of the receiver would be 50% music and 50% movies. these are the speakers I will be driving:

Klipsch SB-1's - 6 of them for the 7.1 set up ( No surrounds)
Klipsch SC-1 Center channel
Subwoofer- undecided but considering Hsu STF -1 or JBL E 250.
Any help or suggestions are welcome. I appreciate your help and time.

i presume that you havent listened to both subs. (have you?)
just like speakers, it depends on the person how he wants his sub. try listening to all of them ... in succession if possible. then compare.
try listening to velodyne and ... other brands that a lot of people here im sure is gonna suggest

Yamaha models

The HTR-5890 model is the same as the RX-V1500 model. This has a little less power and features than the 2500. The Yamaha RX-V2500 is very comparable to the Denon 3805 and both are great midfi receivers.
Make sure you compare prices from authorized dealers if you want a valid warranty.

Concerning the subs, I would vote for the HSU. Read the new audioholics review of this model.

JBL E 250 audition

I did listen to the JBL at locl BB. I could not tell anything about sound quality in the store. It sounded ok to me. Was loud, thats all I could tell. It was already connected with some pre programmed material in the store. Not much help with the customer service. I wish I could take a few CD's of mine and test them out. Will they let me do that? As for the Hsu, there is no way I could test it as I did not find it locally in Houston. May be it's available in more specialized stores. I dont know. I looked in Ccity, Bb and Tweeter, and did not find any hsu there.

If the connections and power capacity are the only differences you are concerned with, then they are pretty much the same. The 2500 has been proved to have an excellent pre-amp section, in case you intend to use an external amp in the future.

I have the HTR 5890, and its got everyting I need, connections and power. The only thing it does not have is HDMI switching, but neiter does the 2500. So with the Xbox 360 coming and all, I will upgrade to the RX-V2600. The 2600 might be the one to look out for if you want to future proof your setup.

they SHOULD let you bring your CD's. if not, find another store.
its easier to compare subs/speakers with the same test CD.

if your going to bring your own CD's, make sure they are bought, or in their original case. I went in with a CD case and got flack for it. They went through the whole thing making sure none were stolen. Whats the Music/Movies ratio? If more movies, bring a dvd instead, much better for testing a subwoofer IMO.

i always burn my cd's from compilations of the originals (different music genres) ... that way, i only need to bring a maximum of 2 cd's.

i even leave the cd's with the salesman. (btw, a blank CD here costs 16centsUS)

Just bought the Yamaha-HTR 5890 and having a heck of a time on getting my two rear surround speakers to work, at my initial set up I instructed the receiver that their was 2 surround back speakers and during the test tone test, it recognizes the speakers.

The problem occurs when playing a 5.1 dvd, on either DTS or THX the rear speakers are silent and it does not show up on the receiver window. Have tried reading the manual to no avail, for some reason or another I am unable to get sound from the rear speakers no matter what I try. ( Besides Test Tones ) Have a 7.1 speaker system.

Has anyone encountered this head ache, any suggestion besides getting a Pioneer receiver?

Unless you are using a PLIIx, DD-EX, DTS-Neo-6, or DTS-ES decoder, there won't be any sound coming from the surround back speakers when playing a 5.1 encoded movie.

I agree with you, that DTS Ex etc. has to be set but why doesn,t the receiver window show that the system is hooked up with 7 speakers it only shows it with the test tone when it's applied?????:(

I believe the window you speak of is the speaker icons in the lower right corner of the display, those are input displays. The surround speakers will only light up when the reviever is getting a multi channel input such as DTS or DD.

zapper, best reason i can think of is that you might not be using an optical cable or coaxial cable from your dvd to your receiver. (you might be using the white and red rca?)

I am using optical cables....What really bothers me is that this receiver is my 5th receiver in my life time and for some reason or another can't get it right:mad: It should be a walk in the park, but somehow got lost in it or is a BIG park.:D

I hope this is relevant

Because I set-up my Pioneer receiver as 7.1 in the menu, it takes a raw DTS source and automatically makes it "DTS + Neo 6". With Dolby Digital Sources I have the option of switching the format between "Dolby Digital EX" "Dolby Digital + PL IIx" and a couple of others. Does the Yamaha let you manually choose between different combinations of different sound types perhaps?
