can i run 1080p(over component) through my reciever and have it still be 1080p(over component) on the other side?? i couldnt find this info in the manual, on the site, or in a previouse post. this is also assuming that the tv i get can accept 1080p over component.

i "think" that component CANNOT handle 1080p. i am not 100% certain, but i recently researched that question and i think i concluded that 1080p was not able to pass full 1080p.

i also hooked up an HDMi cable and a component cable from my upconverting DVD player to my HD plasma (it's not a full 1080p plasma, but does do 1080i and 720p).

on my DVD player, i chose to send out a 720p signal first and then a 1080i signal.

i ran both of those resolutions into my TV via HDMi and then component.

with the signals into the TV, i had the TV tell me what it is displaying. for the component signal coming out of the DVD player at both 720P and 1080i, the TV was only able to show 420p using component cables. using the HDMI, i was able to get the 720p and 1080i to display on the TV.

so, assuming i did my test correctly, my assumption is that component cables cannot do anything more than 420p.

More correctly, the receiver cannot pass anything other than 480p over the component cables. Component cables themselves can handle way more than 1080p.

when i ran my component cables directly from my upconvert DVD player to my plasma (with my DVD player set to output 720p and 1080i), why did my TV only display 420p?

I may have answered my own question - this is from panasonic's web page for my DVD player....it seems the only way for my DVD to output an upconverted signal is if it's hooked to a TV with an HDMI cable, and not a component cable.

"High Definition (1080i/720p) Up-Conversion with HDMI—Upgrade Your DVDs
When connected to an HDMI-compatible TV via an HDMI cable, this DVD player can up-convert the DVD content that you?re watching to 720p or 1080i resolution (depending on your TV?s display capability) so you can enjoy beautiful, high-quality imagery in high definition. "

ok so im still not sure if my receiver can pass 1080p. its not doing any conversion, so i dont really see why it couldn't.

If anyone knows better please correct me on this, but, a hi-def signal (1080i) needs 60MHz of bandwidth, and I *think* that the 2500's component video through only has 60MHz of bandwidth (my computer is not letting me see the manual right now for some reason  ).
Now, 1080i is 60 video fields per second with 540 lines of resolution in each field, 1080p on the other hand, is 30 video fields per second with 1080 lines in of resolution each field. So 1080p would likely need twice the bandwidth as 1080i, something that the 2500 cannot do.
