Yamaha RX-V667 sub problem

I hooked up a new V667 to a Klipsch HD-1000 speaker set. I turned it on and although things weren't balanced great the sub was working. When i got the speaker mounted permanently I ran the auto tuning program, and now I have zero output from the sub. I went back into the manual setup, selected "Use sub-woofer", still nothing out of the sub. I turn on the test tone and all speakers are working, but the sub is silent.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Check the manual LFE signal strength ....turn up the sub in the manual setting in the Yamaha.. My RV2400 did the same thing after I used the YAPO mic . My friend came over with a DB meter and did a manual adjust and turned up the gain on the back of my subs. He then set the cross over at 80 on the Yamaha and 100 on the back of my subs as a starting point.

Now I turn up the gain on the back of my subs for movies and turn it down or off for music..Cornwalls have 15" woofers:) in small 18X20 den.:)

If you have sub yes and can't here the tones, there are three possibilities.

The sub sub signal from your receiver is too low, and the sub auto on can't detect it and stays off. Go to your speaker set up and turn up the sub output on the receiver and see if you can hear the tones. This will likely solve your issue.

The sub may have failed. Connect a CD player to it or other device and see if you get sound.

If you do then your receiver is faulty, if not the sub is faulty.

The sub does have a switch for auto on when a signal is detected, and I turned that to manual but no luck. I'll try connecting a cd player tonight.
What does the 0 degree/180 degree switch on the sub do?

That just allows you to alter the phase to get it in phase with the rest of the system. It will not cause the sub not to function.

It is beginning to look as if you have a faulty sub or faulty receiver. Go through your receiver settings one more time and double check everything.

If the Auto-On wasn't the issue, check to see how YPAO detected your speakers. If it detects your front speakers as "large" then it will not use your sub except for LFE in movie soundtracks. There are two ways to resolve this: set the front speakers to small and choose a crossover frequency that matches your setup (recommended) OR choose the "Extra Bass" option in the same menu (Speaker > Manual > Configuration) of the on-screen display. Let us know if this works. Good luck.

It detected them as small. Extra bass doesn't seem to be an option, I can't change it. I connected the sub to another receiver, still nothing. I'm taking it back tonight, they said they would test it. Thanks for the comments.

EZ to check the subwoofer...
Take an RCA cable plug it into the subwoofer, put the subwoofer on Manual, and set the level & X-over controls in the middle.
Next touch the exposed end of the RCA cable, as you touch with your hand a hum should be heard.

Post back what happened...

The key point is to detremine if in fact the subwoofer is bad. Regarding the AVR having a defective subwoofer out jack, it is possible but not likely.

Just my $0.02... ;)

Sorry to hear that didn't work Dave. Yes, the Extra Bass option can only be chosen when your front speakers are set to "Large". As has been echoed by others already, I would suspect the sub before the receiver. Which one are you taking back to be tested?

You have checked the output level of the sub right?

I think if you look in the manual LFE signal settings you can raise and lower the signal strength(raise DB settings and move the cross over setting). I have two different Yamaha A/V Receivers and both have this feature .... is the LFEindicator light turned on? Look at the front panel display

EDIT
I just realized you hooked up the sub to a different Receiver....check the sub wire, and look and see if your sub has a fuse blown. I bet a beer :) your Yamaha has a LFE setting to raise the DB(volume).

He said he switched off the auto on feature and it was still dead.

I see you have a Revox A77.

I bought the sub back to Ultimate Electronics, they checked it out and found it to be the problem. The fuse was ok, but no output. They have to send it in, 2 weeks minimum.

That sucks, but at least it's not the receiver. Hope you get your system up and running soon...

Make them replace it for you, or better still give you your money back. They charged you top dollar $799 when everybody else seems to sell it for $520.

That set does not look like anything that would really handle much power. It is interesting that it failed to work after going through auto calibration. I suspect the miserable system can't tolerate the high spls generated during calibration.

Personally I would try and get your money back on it and save for something better.

It always amazes me to see those gushing consumer reviews about those puny HTIB set ups, when the laws of physics dictate they couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding.

The satellite to sub crossover has to be set to 150 Hz in any case which is far too high. The sub only goes to 35 Hz which here we don't recognize as a subwoofer, but a bass module.

I would use this as an opportunity to get out of a bad purchase.

Duh I missed that as I was thinking about how I used the manual settings on my Yamaha on the LFE settings. As I have not not messed with it in a long time.Iam getting old (60) ;)

The Revox was my late Dad's, I am re-learning how to use it as I played with his old Viking 7' R2R when I was kid in the 1960's. Now that I am into the R2R I want a B-77 2 track 15 speed. But I was suprised how clean the A-77 4 track at 7 1/2 plays. It is near mnt condition and I am looking for someone to replace the Rifa and Franko "Caps" that seem to fail these machines every 30 years or so :) My MkIV Dolby is a 1977.it's time.

I am glad they found that the sub was at fault, I hate to unplug and start over when I remove my A/V Receiver. Usuallly a 3 hour tour :D EDIT a much longer tour for your huge room.

I looked at your system and remembered seeing it on Ebay as you make recordings from different formats. WOW what a Great room you have. Do you know "ZAP" (Terrence) the Revox man in the UK?? I have purchased several items for the Revox from him.
Regards
Louis

He is called ZAP because he drive a cab(Zap here and Zap there) it's a (England slang) he does part time for extra R2R money. Terry
is 70 now and has about 80 Studer/Revox machines that he buys and sells.
I am in Texas so I am not gone over there to meet him in person but he has sent me many pic's of his machines.

If you need need to update a pic I can only guess what you have done. As your system is WAY over the top. I thought about selling my old Corvette and building a wall like you have done but I just can't part with it......yet. :)
Music is like a Drug to me.as is my Vette.

I too faces these problem with my Onkyo 777. I bought a 10" Eltax subwoofer connect to my Onkyo 777. No sound coming out from the subwoofer. The strange thing if I'm to play a few songs from a cd and stop, Then, the subwoofer will output signal.

I paid about $850 for the Yamaha RX-V667 and the Klipsch HD1000 as a package, I thought it was a pretty good price.
