Yamaha rx-v665 YPAO no sub detected

Anyone have the answer to my sub amplifier not being detected during YAPO program? I have read about others having the same concern but have not stumbled across the combination it might take to simply have it recognize the presence of the sub amp. Even thought it possible that the sub amp input might be too high of an impedence for receiver to detect it so paralled a 1k resistor on sub-lineout but--- still not. In either auto or manual modes can not figure out how to get a sub signal out of either of the sub rca jacks from the receiver. Regardless of how I would program the speakers after the initial detection, I would think it would simply aknowledge that the sub amp is present. All other speakers are detected every time.

I have been using this sub amp for quite some time and verified that a signal to the cord plugged into the back of the receiver does output a signal to the sub-speaker. For now, I have connected the sub-amp via the high level inputs from front L/R and while that is working, if the receiver is not capable of outputting a low level sub signal, I have to assume I am overlooking something or receiver is defective to that fault and needs to be returned. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Even what receiver to replace this one with would be considered. Many hours spent--zero results.

You may want to do a manual check using the Level/Test tone on pg 53 to see if the sub's getting a signal.

I suspect your receiver settings are what's causing the problem.

First, I would disconnect the speaker level feed to the sub amp and connect your receiver's sub out jack to the sub amp's low level input.

In the set-up menu, set your speakers to small and turn subwoofer on then see if your sub is outputting bass. You might have to select something like "LFE + Main" in the set-up menu as well.

Try that and see how it works.

OK, disconnected high level inputs to sub amp and reconnected RCA jack and cable between receivers 'subwoofer 1' output (page 11--ref 8) and line-in of sub amp. Note---if I touch the center pin of this connector cable, a loud hum is output from the sub-woofer speaker--so, know for certain subwoofer amp is ready for LFE signals.

Plug test mic into front jack on receiver and Auto-set-up is enabled. Running test in 'auto mode' signals are sent and heard from all 7 connected speakers but not sub.

PRE CHECK----sends 'noise' to each of 7 connected speaker and indicates that noise is also being sent to SUB but no output from it.

MAIN CHECK---a swept tone is sent to all 7 speakers only---no indication that tone is being sent to sub and nothing heard from it.

CALCULATION---during calculations no mention of sub

LEVEL-----------again, no mention of sub

Under RESULTS--SP shows 3/4/--- suppose that means 3 fronts, 4 rear, nothing else.

What am I missing? I preset speakers to small and tried every combination I can think of.

Now working!!! Lesson to be learned--never assume anything. I assumed the RCA cable connecting the receivers-sub-out to the sub-amp-input was not the problem as this cable had worked just fine with the Pioneer I had just replaced with the new Yamaha. Turned out the center pin of RCA connector, on the receiver end, was just a bit shorter than it needed to be, to make proper connection with the Yamaha jack. Replaced the cable and it now works very nicely. Sorry Yamaha, my mistake--you sound great now and up-side is I learned a great deal while searching for the answer to my preceived problem-, -thanks Jmorris
