wonder if anyone has any experience with this unit. I just picked it up a couple weeks ago and trying to set up my zone 2, to my outdoor speakers. From reading the manual it looks like i can only select zone 2 for, FM/Am, XM, Sirus, or the ipod using the yamaha dock. so then can i not use zone 2 using any other inputs?

Hi. I don't have that receiver, but I just looked through the manual. I don't believe that those are the only sources that you can use with Zone 2. If you are using the built-in amps and connecting speakers directly to the receiver for Zone 2, I'll bet that you can pick any source that you want. The manual discusses the things that you can control for Zone 2, and the sources that you listed allow for additional choices (such as changing channels on the tuner).

If you are going to use the Zone 2 pre-amp analog outputs, then I'm pretty sure that you can only use sources with analog inputs (in addition to the built-in radio tuner).

yes run analog red and white from things to receiver

from cable box.. dvd .. whatever if you are using hdmi also just run those to dvd or cbl / sat whatever it's called and run the others to dvr or something else.. so you're using two outputs of each thing to two inputs on the receiver.

You need analog outs (red/white) also. No digital sources get processed in zone 2. So if you run HDMI from cable, you need to also run analog.
