Hi all-

I'm looking to purchase a receiver to power 5 Sonance VP65R speakers and a Polk 505 Sub. I have a 60" Vizio LED tv as well. I also have an HTPC (running XBMC) with a number of my movies in varying quality levels. I was looking at refurb amps on accessories4less was originally thinking the 471 would suit my needs. I then noticed that the 571 provides 1080p upscaling. I'm wondering if this will help provide better quality for movies that I have on my HTPC in SD format.

I also have another question. My XBOX only has component output. Will this receiver take component input and send it to the TV over the HDMI output?

If the signal is not upconverted before it gets to the TV, the TV will upconvert it. Which is better depends on the relative quality of the upconversion, and for knowing that, both things would have to be tested.

It looks like the RX-V571 will:

RX-V571 - RX-V - AV Receivers - Audio & Visual - Products - Yamaha United States

But it does not look like the RX-V471 will:

RX-V471 - RX-V - AV Receivers - Audio & Visual - Products - Yamaha United States

To be sure, you should download the manuals and see what they say about that. It is free, but you have to register with Yamaha to do that. I just downloaded it and looked, and it says on page 86 of the manual that it does not convert video sources at all.

So, for the RX-V571, the answer is "yes," and for the RX-V471, the answer is "no."

The RX-V571 is substantially better than the RX-V471. You are looking at a level of receiver where each step up to a higher model can be very significant.

My RX-V375 Yamaha AVR does not take component and convert it to HDMI, but I can watch either with my Sony TV. I just have to change the input from video to HDMI or vice versa. Good luck in choosing the best AVR. Peace and goodwill.
