YAMAHA RX-V4600 Up Conversion

I need some help and better understanding of: "however it does support component video upconversion so it's a good idea to use this feature when handling composite, s-video and component video connections."

This statement was in the review of the receiver. My understanding is it will not do upconversions of any movie DVD or VHS with the macrovision code. Just display at the 480i/p from the source player.

If you can defeat the macrovision before the signal is input into the receiver with a macro blocker(component or S video), should the receiver change the output digital format to 720 or 1080?

If this can be done by using a macro blocker, how do you set the receiver for 720 or 1080?

Additionally, has anyone tried the renaming of inputs using the GUI interface referenced on page 75 of the manual? Any known problems?

Yamaha 4600 featues.

Congrats on the new receiver purchase. Here is an overview of a couple of the features found on these newfangled receivers:

Upconversion: The ability to take input composite video, svideo, or component video signals and output all of them over a single component video or HDMI cable allowing a single connection to the TV. Note, you may need a composite or s-video connection to run the On Screen Display of your Receiver.

Upscalling: The ability to take a lower resolution input signal (480i or 480p) and upscale it to the native resolution of your HDTV (720p or 1080i). The Yamaha RX-V2600 is the only receiver I am aware of that currently has this feature. You will also find lots of new DVD players with the upscaling feature.

Thus, your 4600 does not have the upscalling feature.

Its true.. I looked into upscalling/upconversion before I bought a reciver. The RX-V2600 is the only reciver that has these feature. I have the 2600 and wow what a difference.

Sorry.. but just so I understand...

If I connect the S-video or Component cable from my Satellite receiver into the Component-in or S-video-in on the RXV2600, Then connect a Component From the RXV2600 to my HD Ready TV,(capable of doing 1080i)... I will see all my programs in that HD High video mode?

Thanks..

From Rx-v2600, HDMI-out to HDMI-in/DVI-in TV that would upscale all of your regular channels to 1080 ! That how it works. You will be amazed .
