Thanks Mike,
I'm not seeing any huge improvements in the 1900 over the 1800 beyond the USB connection. Assuming it will actually exist on the US model.
I'm curious to know whether or not Yamaha got rid of the tiny volume display that is the most annoying defect in the 1800. I couldn't tell from the pix.
The volume is still tiny on the receiver itself, however it does show on the TV. :)

It doesn't show on the TV when the input is HDMI. It's only the 3900 that has added support for messages overlayed on HDMI input, the 1900 still works like the older 1800/3800 (no "short messages" on screen for HDMI inputs).

Oops!...I've forgot to mention that only the 3900 supports it...NOT the 1900:eek:

I am very happy with my 3900. I upgraded from a 2700. Here are my pros/cons from my previous avr.

Pros
1. The hdmi onscreen messages are nice. Didn't have that with the 2700.
2. The Rhapsody network player is a big add-on for me.
3. I am hopeful that Sirius Satellite radio is around long enough for the network feature to be implemented.
4. 2nd and 3rd zone amplification is great. The 2700 only had rca outs for 2nd and 3rd zone.
5. Onscreen GUI is alot better and the remote is much improved.
6. The ability to update the firmware via cat5. I have used it once.
7. The amp section is powerful. Although I use the 3900 as a prepro, 140 x 7 is nice. This gives me the ability to power more than 3 zones for music.

Cons
1. The 3900 is slightly taller than the 2700. I had to move it to a different place in my rack until I take the time to reconfigure my shelves.

As you can see I am very pleased with the 3900.

Just ordered the Z7, and will be using it as a pre-pro. You can shut the amps off totally in the Z7 for pre-pro use, or they can be assigned to other zones. Not sure yet if that is just or, or and/or.

My initial use will be a theater pre-pro, but the other zone features will be considered for future home upgrades and what-not.

Looks like, with all the features, I will have my hands full for a while. Pretty exciting.

I've been on a mission lately trying out several different receivers.

I have had this Yamaha RX-V3900 in my system for roughly a week now. Its simlpy a fantastic receiver. The features this baby has are just amazing. The On-Screen volume/ menu overlay is absolutely awesome.

Previous to this i was using a Denon 2809ci, which was a very good receiver. But this Yamaha was definately a step up, at least in my system. The whole sound field sounds much more open and dynamic.

But like i said i have been on a mission trying several different AVR's so im selling the yammi. Next up is a Marantz SR6003. Im hoping the Marantz will still give me great SQ, but im guessing its very similar to the Denon...

Enjoy the 3900 all, its an AMAZING receiver. I highly recommend this tank, because its truly a great achievement from Yamaha.

I have to agree with the previous post. I have had the 3900 for about a month and I am still amazed at how much better it sounds than my previous Sony STRDA4300ES. I had been a long time Sony ES user and with the 4300ES the sound was well.........brighter.......more harsh. Best way to discribe it. I talked with a local audio dealer and the salesperson recommended Yamaha. He said they had just got the 3900 in that day and I would be the first one from his store to test it out. I am so glad I did. Sounds is warm, detailed, and full. I am using CD, SACD, DVD-A. Very impressed. I did use the YPAO auto calibration. THe only change I made was to set my Polk Audio LSI15 front speakers from large to small. Yamaha has a winner here.

no the amps never turn off. In preamp mode you can assign 4 channels of amps to Zones 2 and/or 3.

They added a multi point YPAO and the new codecs DT-MA, DTHD and a blu toothe Ipod dock.
What is DT-MA and DTHD? New upcoming formats? I've not heard of them until this post. I thought my RX-V1800 would futur proof me for at least 5 years

3900 Video Noise

I have been evaluating the 3900 and the SC-07 for the past few weeks and run into what appears to be an issue for me with the 3900. When watching DVDs (Denon 2900) I am getting considerable nosie (MPEG) in dark backgrouds and similar but to less extent from my DirecTV HD receiver on HD channels. I have tried PrEP processing, pass through and any other setting from both a receiver and TV (Sony KDS-60A3000) perspective. The Pioneer SC-07 seems to be better in this regard. Has anyone else seen this issue? Side note I tried by PS3 and experienced slightly better results for DVD playback, but about 20 minutes into a DVD the PS3 fan goes into TURBO mode and I can't stand that noise.

I think it is really a TV / 3900 combo that is causing macroblocking, mosquito noise and/or compression artifacts. These issues are significantly more visable than with the SC-07. I see similar issues with poorly compressed DirecTV with their latest HD receiver on SD and HD channels.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to return the 3900 if I can't improve the video.

Has anyone figured out how to handle the +10db problem with the 3900 multichannel interface. It seems that I will have to develop something special using the memory configs to adjust for the lack of compensation for the LFE in the multi-channel config.

I am thoughly dissapointed with the video up conversion of the 3900. I see significant video artifacts with the 3900 in upconversion as compared to the pioneer SC-07, which is supposed to have inferior processing. I have both units for test and so far the SC-07 wins in in both video and audio performance. However, the Pioneer has no HD radio and web control, which is a big minus for modern day receivers.

My thoughts are currently that I will return both in hopes of something better in next year's relaeses.:(

Are these artifacts the same you are experiencing with the dark/black scenes? Do they go away if in addition to processing you disable also upscaling/conversion (ie. set resolution to Through) in Yamaha?

Are you using HDMI out in Yamaha?

I assume you are using analog video inputs with Denon 2900, maybe Yamaha's analog-digital converted for video ain't as good as with Pioneer.

Also you said PS3 DVD performance and with some other sources things were slightly better.. if you used HDMI all the way and PS3 / source doing the scaling, was there really difference between Yamaha and Pioneer with both receivers in pass through mode?

I haven't noticed any of these, but my Yamaha is in pass through mode and also with no upconversion (my sources are already in native resolution for my projector).
