Hi guys, first off I want to say I have been searching through google for days before searching through the forums and have got nowhere in the form of help.

Heres the rub:

My dad has set up his surround sound theater with his new speakers, new blu-ray player, sub-woofer and a big ass tv. Everything was fine until one night when he notice that no sound was coming from the speakers, only from the tv. After getting pissed off and annoyed for days he wanted me to fix it for him. After playing around with the settings, turning various options on and off and the like, I accidentally fixed it or at least I thought I did.

What I did was:

Set-up, HDMI configuration, configuration and turned it on from there (unfortunately I was in front of the speakers with the volume all the way up, needless to say I'm still waiting to get my hearing back).

My dad was now happy, well kinda. Even though this method turns on the system for the blu-ray player, it still doesn't turn it on for the tv most of the time. The only way to get the sound on is to do the above then turn off the blu-ray player and switch back to tv.

Needless to say we are completely stumped and any help will be greatly appreciated.

FYI, I have only mentioned the box (Yamaha RX-V377) because I believe this is where the problem lies but I will supply all other info if felt needed (I'm kinda being lazy but will get the info if you believe its needed).

How does the TV fit into the system? IOW, is it getting everything from an antenna, or from cable or satellite?

Antenna straight from the wall. The system was fine for a few weeks before this all started

I’ve seen audio drop-out problems before with HDMI, and everything initially worked fine in that situation too. Try sending digital coax or optical from the problem sources to the Yamaha receiver.
