Yamaha RX-V2500 Zone2 problem

Hey all, so I'm setting up the Zone2 functionality on my reciever for the first time, and I'm having an issue. Specifically I can't get my CD or DVD audio to route to the speakers I have pluged into the internal amp. DTV and Tuner signal gets to Zone2 just fine, and I know my CD and DVD players are working because they'll send signal to the main zone fine. Any ideas about what the problem might be?

I guess you have tried turning the Rec Out/Zone 2 knob to the appropriate setting? If you select SOURCE/REMOTE do you get the audio in both your main zone and Zone 2? According to the manual that is what should happen.

I have the same receiver but never bothered with the zone 2 and zone 3 features. I personally would buy a second receiver (which I did). But I am beginning to see where this setup could be useful. ie: I can't see someone (including me) setting up a receiver in the kitchen.

Ya turning that front panel knob has the same results, the DTV and Tuner work but CD and DVD don't. Having it set on remote just allows me to flip around faster to try to find some discrepency between the inputs.

A studio engineer friend of mine offered the idea that the internal amp wasn't putting out enough power to get the signal to the speakers in Zone2. There's probably forty or fifty feet of speaker wire in the walls between the reciever and the speakers. But if that was the case, that would mean that the DTV and Tuner are externally amped, right? I can see how the DTV would be since the audio signal gets run through a 5.1 system with an amp in the sub, but I don't know how the Tuner would be.

Just more confusion.

That makes no sense at all. I have 50' easily going to my right surround back speaker. How are you DVD & CD players connected to the receiver? RCA analog, RCA digital, Optical digital?

The manual states (page 78) "Only analog signals are sent to the second and third rooms. Any source you want to listen to in the second or third room must be connected using the analog (AUDIO L/R) input jacks on this unit."

Make sure you enable the internal amp for zone 2. By default it is set to external....meaning that you are hooking up an external amp to power zone two. In your case you want the internal amp to power zone 2. It is in the advanced setup options.

But JP said it works on DTV and TUNER So, he must have made the changes.

I activated the internal amp already. My DVD and CD players are both connected via optical. I suppose I should break out some old RCA cables and make with the old red and white huh.

Edit: Wow, literally a case of "I'm too dumb to read the instructions completely when things aren't working." I appreciate all your help guys, it was my connection from the CD to the Reciever.

I am glad to see it's not a faulty receiver. Too bad it can't pass on digital info though. I guess it can only decode one digital source at a time. I wonder if you can connect both digital and analog sources. That way in your main room it will (could???) use the digital source (which I have found to be better in many cases over analog - ie: PS2 and CD player) and analog in your remote zones.
