Hello
I have to agree with BM on this one product reliability is one of the most important aspects of a good H/T system It wont sound very good in your system if its always in the repair shop. I also recommend products based on
Reliability there is nothing more frustrating then terminating a system then having to go rip it all back out again.

Personally I have not encountered many problems with Denon But I will say that Yamaha for me has been the most reliable.

Least reliable that have not been mentioned in order
List is generated from my experience there are others but these come to mind very quickly

#1 Sherwood/Sherwood Newcastle
#2 Kenwood ßPossibly closing doors
#3 AMC
#4 Sony/Sony ES
#5 HK
#6 TEAC
#7 JVC
#8 Pioneer

Adcom is perhaps the least reliable product that I have ever used. Of about 40 of their products that I have installed, no less than 30 have had actual product failures. It is like a Ferrari, a top notch exotic car, but you better have a mechanic on staff and NOT plan on driving and enjoying it every day..
Good to know....my friend has an Adcom and it sounds great, too bad that they are flakey.

Yes, it's a tradeoff I guess, the more exotic stuff is just that...less mass market and thus more prone to its share of problems.

I have both a Yammy and Denon. I've had my Yammy for almost 18 years. A few times the display went out, but a good bang on the side of the unit turns it back on. Still works. Anyone else have problems with Denon? The 4802 was an expensive model - why not send it to the new Denon/Marantz/McIntosh Illinois plant for repair? They charge by the hour and are much more reasonable. That unit still sells for over $1000 even though it's becoming quite old. I bet you can get it fixed with shipping and even updated for under $175, then sell it. Lots of Denon fans on this site would consider that unit.
do you have their contact information, I would like to find out how much would it cost to fix it, I cant decide if I should buy a RX-v2500 on ebay for $730 (with shipping) or get it fix?? the only feature I like about Denon is you can monitor different video other than audio source.

Video Frequency Response

I notice the 3db down range for component video frequency response on the 3805 is DC-100 Hz while for the 2500 it is 5-60 Hz. What practical effect does this have on video throughput?

None - HDTV runs something like 30 Hz

I have the Denon 3805 with Polk RTI 12's and RTI 6's in the rear. I think I could have done better for the money than the 12's. The 6's though, are excellent rear channel speakers if you have stands...if not, get the 8's as they will cost the same as buying the 6's and stands. I tried the 8's, 10's and 12's all in my house at one time. The 10's were my least favorite. There seemed to be a hole in the middle of the soundstage. The 8's with a sub aren't much worse than the 12's, but the 12's were still better. $800 better I don't know. I would get the LSi 15's if I had a chance to do it all over again. Don't let people tell you Polk is crap. This site doesn't speak of them because they don't get kickbacks and Polks are sold in big box stores so people assume they are crap. Polks were known as some of the best not long ago before they went mass market and now high end stores won't sell them because they can not compete. The day I saw Polks categorized with Bose on a review here was the day i learned to read all reviews subjectively. Bose is shiite. Polks are not.

All you have to do is look at the fact speakers like Axiom are constantly reviewed and pushed through advertising on this site, and there is NEVER mention of Polks. Polk RTI 12's are better than any Axiom product. Hands down. Axiom pays the bills here, and companies like RFH...their banners are everywhere on this site because, they pay the bills. Sorry Clint but it's the truth. and I am not looking to tick anyone, especially Clint off as I LOVE this site.

Any ways...

I never tried it, but if I were you, i would try the RTI8's all around with a good sub...that would be killer for DVD audio or 5 channel stereo.

I may be new here, but I definitely agree - I don't see a lot of talk about Polks, and it's all that the Tweeter store is pushing on me. I'm not one to fold under pressure, but I can't seem to find a whole lot about them....good, bad, or indifferent. I have however seen a great deal with regard to Axiom, and am particularly impressed - without of course having heard them. Any insights?

There is quite a bit of talk about Polks, just none recently. Polks IMO love the power. Higher end Polks have low spl levels, but sound amazing if you have enough power to push them. There are great companies out there that very few of us discuss much: BIC's, Cerwin Vegas, Athena, Canton, Jamo, Energy, MB Quart, Mirage, NHT, Wharfedale, and numerous more. The problem is you are very dependent on who sells what, and who owns what for advice. Axiom speakers are expensive, and the return policy is expensive if you need to use it. Personally, I'd go with Athena, BIC, or CV's on a budget over Polks unless I found a great local deal like I did. Polks are not cheap because of the massive advertising they do. You are paying for the name. If you have more to spend, you can risk having the online dealers ship you out their speakers, but fully understand you will owe some money to demo them. And don't forget, no speakers sound the same in different rooms unless they are demo'd in your room, set up the exact same way. Retailers can make anything sound good if they want. Make sure to take your material to demo and not use what Tweeter offers. You'll know what to listen for that way.
