Hey guys, I am using the rx-v2500 solely as a 2 channel set upfor my turntable( 2 floor standing speakers). There are several settings like pure direct (no processing whatsoever), 2 channel, and straight. peopel familiar with this receiver, what is the most ideal setting? also, is the eq accessible besides just treble and bass? if i could mess with the individual bands im sure i can make it sound great. just trying to get the best bang out of this thing pleas help!

Listen to each setting and decide which one sounds best to you. Different people may have different preferences than you. I think I used to run mine in multichannel mode even though I only had two speakers and a sub hooked up. Just thought it sounded more dynamic than the other choices. The 2500 does have a parametric eq. To access it you will need to hook up the monitor out to a video source. It's been a while since I've had the 2500 so my directions may not be 100% accurate. You need to hit the menu button on the remote and go into the speaker or audio submenu (if I remember correctly) and choose parametric eq. It really shouldn't be that hard to find once you have the on-screen menu open. Just remember that some settings like direct bypass any eq settings (though I'm sure you already knew that). When you get it dialed in the way you like, make sure you save it in slot 1 or 2 in the memory, because it will retain the adjustments even if power is lost. The other memory slots don't.

My buddy was over the weekend and asked "Whats the best setting on your receiver"...I replied "The setting that I like the best is Straight Enhancer for music, or Neo:Music" For 5.1 I use straight with either PLIIx or ES/EX matrixing for 7.1.
There is no "BEST setting", but there are settings that are used by more people than others...for example, not many people use the "Music" button on the remote which changes modes to things like "Stadium - Concert Hall - etc..."

I use the 2500.....

You can play around with the settings to see what you like best. Straight is what I use 99% of the time. Pure Direct is supposed to be best for 2 channel music, but it doesn’t have a sub output, and it skips the EQ system. Depending on your speakers and tastes, you may like one over the other.
Do you have a sub?
Do your speakers give you enough bass without a sub?
Does your room have any acoustical problems that would make you need the EQ?
All things that you’ll need to answer for yourself.
As far as all the music settings, they are fun to try, but I wouldn’t use them for critical listening. In the end, it's up to you.
