Yamaha RX-v2400 – Multi Zone – Multi source question
I have a Yamaha RX-v2400 and run 3 zones with two sources for video.
Video Inputs are as follows:
1. DVD player connected via component video – DVD Input
2. Cable box connected via component video – DTV input
Audio inputs are as follows:
1. DVD Player connects to the digital audio input #8 (orange input bottom left)
2. Cable box is connected to CBL/SAT, composite inputs AND DVR/VCR2 digital input, so that I can use the audio from the cable box via multi-zone operations I use the composite inputs.
A few questions for the experts:
1. How does the 2400 map the DVR/VCR2 to digital audio input to the cab/sat input for video? Meaning the label says DVR/VCR2 but yet the audio is mapped to when I use my cable box. How does that work?
2. I am trying to integrate a new device, a WD media server into the equation. I will use the HDMI video output of the WD and connect it straight to my TV – then I need to pump the audio from the WD into the Yamaha. It has composite audio outputs I can use. I am assuming I just pick an empty input and select that on the remote when trying to access the media server correct?
3. Stay with me here, I would also like to do the following:
a. Play music from the media server
b. Play a DVD on the screen – and have DVD muted so that the music is coming from the media server
Is this possible? Im having a hard time understanding how the 2400 will understand how to play the DVD and use the Audio from another source
Many thanks in advance –
The Dugan

Welcome Dugan,

Q1) Assign input, pg 54
Q2) Correct
Q3) Yes, pg 31, the MS needs to go to an audio source input (CD) to differentiate it from a video source.
