Hi all recently I purchased an Yamaha RX-V2085 AV Receiver and have set it up in a 7.2 configuration.
Im running 2 x Yamaha NS-777 front speakers, 1x NS-C444 Centre speaker and 4 x NS-333 for rear and side surround and 2 x YST-RSW300 subs and it sounds great.
My Question is does any one here know if you can add a external amp to run the front speakers.
The unit does have a front pre out but the manual says that only the RX-V3085 can run an external amp.
Can any one help.

Cheers in advance.

Welcome to AH,

Yes, your RX-V2085 has pre-outs for 7.2 channels. I suggest that you read the Owner's Manual for details.

Thanks Verdinut I have reread the manual and it confirms this, so I could use a Yamaha A-S1100 to drive the front NS-777s and still get 7.2.2 but cant do 9.2.2?

You have 7.2 preouts, that's all. Each is located on the back of the receiver. So you can use an external amp to drive any of the 7 speakers, but I'd use an amp not an integrated amp.

The ceiling speakers are only powered by the Yamaha 2085/2080 models internally but the other speakers can be powered by external amps. That is why there are only 7.2 preouts.

Hello Snakeeyes thanks for the reply, so I can run any of the 7 main speakers through a power amp. How do I do this? And yes I am a newby learning as I go. Do you have any examples? What's the difference between an integrated amp and a power amp?

So if you feel you need more power you could get an amp from Outlaw or Monoprice and connect RCAs to the preouts. Usually just the front 2 speakers and possibly the center would need assistance though. The 2085 is a decent receiver.

Hi: were you able to successfully connect a 5 channel amplifier to the RX-V2085 to power the base layer 5 channels? I would like to know since I have the RX-V2085 and also confirm that the manual is not clear.

Don’t need manual to see those. Just check the back .
Dumb response...you do need the manual to utilize the different configurations, what os settings correspond to what output jacks to use, and whether his unit and not the upper model can do what he wants.
That AVR has many different hookup options.
He didn't really say what he is doing.
Try again.
