After running through all the setup anc calibration procedures, I only get the 2 rear speakers to work in the Stereo 7 Channel program, Can anyone tell me if is this how the receiver is suppose to work or is there something else I need to setup? Does not matter what input I use the only time the rear speakers work is this mode?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Yes, there seems to be a setup or selection issue.
Do all the speakers emit a test tone when you calibrate it when level matching?
Not sure if that receiver has a FM tuner but if it does, what happens when you select it and ask the processor for Dolby prologic processing?
What input are you using, CD, DVD? Are they set up for digital out? Bitstream?

Yes running the test tones and during the calibration test all speakers work fine and the receiver is aware of them.
Yes receiver has FM tuner and the same happens there only 5 speakers work(no rears)
same if i select Dolby prologic
Input CD, DVD and Cable box both the cable box and DVD are connected via Optical connection Not sure how to check if they set up for digital out? Bitstream? Will that change how the receiver send the signal to speakers since all the speakers do work when I have it in Stereo 7CH mode?

Thanks

In your receiver setup you can tell each input what kind of signal to respond to. In your case the DVD and Cable Box should inputs should be set to digital. Also you can tell the receiver how to handle the signal data. That should be set to "auto" in every case and the receiver will figure out if it's a DTS signal or DD etc. BTW, I use my DVD player to play both CDs and DVDs.

Bitstream is part of your DVD player setup. You need to be sure that in the DVD players setup menu it outputs "bit stream". This sends a pure digital signal to the receiver and the receiver then decodes it as long as the input on the receiver is set to "auto". (see above) Seven channel stereo just takes the front left and right stereo signals and sends it to all your speakers.

I must admit to being a bit stumped. At the times when you are only getting the 5 speakers to work; what does the front display show? Does it by chance say SUR. STANDARD? If so this only decodes to 5.1 sound. Rotate the program knob one click clockwise or press the right arrow button once to get SUR. ENHANCED or matrixed 7.1 sound.
I admit it doesn't seem to be your situation as it seems your pretty familiar with the receiver, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

Now we are getting someplace:D You have a 6.1 or 7.1 setup then.
Not sure if all those should operate in all modes but am sure you need to try and test a DVD movie that has been processed in 6.1 and see. Maybe that is the only case you will get 'all' your speakers to work and stereo surround when all are also activated.

First I want to thank everyone for their advise and after doing some diags I found out the problem was not with the Receiver but the components. The wife blew a circuit sometime back and it reset the components back to factory settings so after adjusting the components everything is fine.
Even after I resolved this issue I had the iche to upgrade my receiver and after reading all the threads on seperates verus all in ones I decided to go out and do some listening for myself in which I found an open box deal at my local tweeter that was selling the Denon 4806(not CI) for $1,800 bucks with full warrenties so how could I pass this up. Not sure if it's a fair comparison but being an long time Yamaha fan I must admit this Denon sure sounds great.

Thanks again to all that helped with my issue it sure cost me alot to resolve it :)
