Hi everyone I am new to the site and have a question on this receiver. I have a set of cerwin vega E-715 speakers that I use to have hooked up to an old two channel receiver that was 100 watts rms per channel, I know old school! It sounded great at low and high volume. This Yamaha receiver I purchased used and at low volume watching movies I don't get allot of bass like the old one did but at high volume it sounds awesome. I went through and set the receiver up for two large front speakers. In the manual it says I can hookup another amp, receiver for more power to the front speakers. It is very confusing on how to do this. I have a Yamaha dsp-E1000 field processor, can I somehow use this to add more power? Any info on this would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Grant

May be your old receiver has "loudness" button and you had it pushed in all the time? The RX-V doesn't have a loudness button but you should be able to boost the bass just the same by playing with the tone control and EQ features.

I tried that and didn't seem to matter at low volume. These speakers have a 15" woofer and wonder if this new receiver has enough power, this is why I am wondering if I can hook up a second amp.
thanks,
Grant

Being a 7 channel receiver, if the RX-V1400 is used to drive only 2 channels it should be at least as good as your old one. You did set the front speakers to "large" right. Did you try the pure direct mode, in case there is something wrong in your setting? Pure direct, or straight (whatever Yamaha calls it) mode is supposed to bypass all tone control/EQ settings.

The bottom line is, if you are getting good bass like your old receiver at higher volume settings then your receiver is fine, just that it does not boost bass like your old unit does at the lower volume levels. I assume you are aware of the fact that human ears are not as sensitive to low frequencies at low volume as they are to the higher frequencies.

I guess what I would like to try is hooking up a second amp, receiver like it says I can in the manual. Has any one worked with a yamaha dsp-e1000 field processor? Can I use this as a second amp? It says in the rx-v1400 manual to hook up second receiver to the L and R outputs buy the speaker connections to boost power. Whats confusing is that it is very vage on where I should have speakers connections eather on A or B, I have it now on speaker A and hooked up second receiver and it didn't make any differance.

As Peng has stated, a larger amp or second amp isnt going to change your situation. Your speakers are extremely efficient , with High SPL output. A true 50wpc into them is insane. Your best bet has been mentioned;). Your DSP only has power for center and surrounds and isnt going to do anything for you.

Thank you for the info, you all have answered the questions I needed to know. I think I should look for a sub for watching movies and for low volume bass.

If you really want to add an ext. amp you should get a power amp and not bother with the dsp e1000. Connect the amp's input jacks to the "pre-out" jacks of the RX-V1400 as per http://www.yamaha.ca/av/PDFs/Manuals/Receivers/RXV1400R_EN.pdf page 20. The speakers should be connected to the amp's output jacks. I agree the manual is not making things clear enough for most people.
