pretty satisfied overall with the unit but what gives with the slow USB loading & playing. my settings seem to be correct, per the manual. I just updated to firmware ver. 3.43 and the USB is still slower than molasses. is this normal?

Update on USB issue I was having FWIW. I don't know if this is a firmware issue that will be addressed in the future but I found a cure for my slow loading times and that's to put the MP3 files in folders instead of individually on the flash drive.

I recall the days when I had some issues with the USB on my Denon as well. But I went to streaming from iPad to Apple TV/Air-Play and no more issues. :D

I see a Bluetooth transceiver in my future to satisfy guests (read: relatives) requests ... outside of that I'm golden. I love Bruno. :D

That is odd, I prefer folders too but it should not make it faster, likely slightly slower. Slow is relative, how many seconds does it take now to load? I think you should try different USB flash drives as they all varies in performance, and make sure they are formatted FAT32, not exFAT or NTFS. I am guessing most AVRs don't like exFAT an NTFS even though they are much better than FAT32.

This wasn't an issue of seconds but 10 minutes and longer. I contacted Yamaha tech support on the issue and reviewed my flash drive format (FAT32 is recommended), swapping out different size/brand flash drives and we reviewed my settings. Everything I had done previously to calling was correct and he thought there was a problem with the control board and they offered to RMA the unit. Since I wasn't the original owner and the seller didn't have the receipt I had resigned myself that I wouldn't be able to use the function. But being the OC type that I am I kept reviewing the problem in my head and decided to put the files in folders to see what would happen ... according to Yamaha it shouldn't matter ... and Voila!!! it worked.

ok, so in 2011 I downsized to one of these and have been pretty happy with it. I was thinking about adding an amp or something until I read this review, so does this receiver still hold up compared to whats out there now? I was thinking of emotiva or something like that(I dont want to spend krell money anymore or even used krell money.) Anyway just fishing right now and any insight is appreciated.

the 3000 is running 155WPC channel, so the power is there. outside of the ESS DAC and the Atmos feature, which is still in it's infancy, what are u looking for? save ur money and enjoy it.

I used to have 250wpc, and am just feeling that I'd like to have over kill again.. I probably don't use this to its full advantage as it is.

It's 21.9 dBW(155watts) vs 23.9 dBW(250watts. That's not even 3 dB. That's not even greater than the tolerance we use for speaker design.

Cool, i'm feeling better and better about selling that krell amp. I'm actually really glad I found this site.. it's giving me a new perspective about what costs are worth while in this hobby.

dBW are the proper unit for amps, but for marketing reasons they choose to use Watts instead.

I mean no one would buy 31.7 dBW(1500 watts) amp instead a 30 dBW(1000 watts) amp if they listed them that way.
