I recently acquired a 2060 and have a few questions. I’m running an Intel NUC used for Roon, Sony UBP-X700, Apple TV and Xbox One X through the receiver via HDMI. I have a 2.1 setup and am going to be sticking with that for a while. My first question is regarding DSP and playback from Roon. From what I’ve read, Pure Direct will DEFINITELY bypass the sub because the source signal is 2.0 not 2.1 and it won’t touch the signal. So that’s out. Straight will apparently allow the sub to receive data as will 2 Ch Stereo. I want to use Straight instinctually, but I do have some 5.1 albums that I want downmixed into 2.1 (not to mention almost every movie I watch). I don’t know if Straight basically does a “dumb” downmix by sheer fact of not having any surrounds connected, or if the data goes to those phantom channels and I’ll be missing out.
Second question is regarding upsampling. I have this ability within Roon but wanted to try to keep the upsampling at a hardware level using the Yamaha. I think I’m understanding that the Compressed Music Enhancer set to on and Hi Res will upsample my lossless library? I’m not sure how to confirm what’s happening in that signal chain or if this is even an option if I were to use the Straight DSP as mentioned above.
