Yamaha RX-A2000 / subwoofer help

Just got a RX-A2000 and since I had a Yamaha receiver before I was familiar with the connections. However I am having problems with my Mirage FRx-S10subwoofer. No matter what I try I can not get the subwoofer to put out sound when doing anything besides the YPAO auto setup. During the auto setup you can hear the sub thump when told. Play any audio source and the woofer sits quiet. No matter what you do with volume knob it doesn't make a sound.

I know the sub is older but it has been old faithful. I do get an out of phase message on the receiver for the sub but this means the polarity is reversed. I am using an RCA cable so that is not the case. Receiver instructions even say this may not be a true error message and don't worry if hooked correctly.

I'm wondering if I am setting the sub up wrong. It has a low pass filer adjustment along with the volume. I followed the sub set up instructions (like have for 10 years) and I followed the A2000 instructions. Some setting in receiver need changed?

I tried the receiver output #2 and the xover rca input plug on the sub with no changes. I went into the receiver controls and increased output of the sub with no change either.

How could the sub thump during setup but not when playing a source????

Have you checked sub yes, in the speaker menu? Can you get the sub to play if you turn the sub output all the way up on the receiver.

Have you set your mains, at least, to small, so that a signal will be sent to the sub, when there is no LFE signal?

I copied and pasted this from my thread... I bought the Yamaha RX-A2000 and had trouble with my dual Klipsch KW-120's. I felt like you (it was also an upgrade from an older Yamaha model)... didn't understand why my system wasnt working.

Agree with TLS Guy: go down the list and make sure all the settings are setup correctly

* wires connected correctly from reciever to sub
* all speakers set to small w/ 80Hx crossover
* sub 1 set as ON, sub 2 set as off
* the sub level set at 0.0dB (and then try higher levels)
* power amp assign: 7 channel normal configuration
* make sure the AV input is properly set (e.g. AV2 with HDMI vs Optical)
* decoding set up as "straight" (then try other possible settings)
* make make sure the material has LFE info
* try plugging sub back into old reciever to double check the sub

In the end, I just disconnected everything, updated the firmware, plugged everything back in and it worked like a charm... good luck with your system!

Thanks for the help. Not sure what worked. Tried things and nothing seemed to work right. Then all of a sudden the sub kicked in and the main speakers also gained some bass. Been working fine for a couple days on all settings.

Only problem now is I can tell my speakers aren't up to task when I crank it up. Guess time to save.

Sounds like you have the sub setting in the receiver incorrectly set. Check that is is set to SW and not BOTH.

Also, as already mentioned by Guavamanh, make sure ALL speakers are set to SMALL. Make sure your x-over points are correct.

Hi all newbie here to the forum just upgraded from the 1900 to this amp and my sub volume is low have Tryed the above settings extra bass and sw are greyed out have I missed a setting didn't have problems with old amp running bose 5.1 speaker system.

If the sub selection is greyed out it probably means you have the speakers set to large which is recommended by "boose" this way they used the internal crossover in their "base module" (not sub). Since their cubed speakers can only handle 120hz (maybe more like 150hz). Try setting all to small to see if sub gets unlocked. But either way if you are only running bose, leave them all on large. As long as you are running the cubes through the base module.

I started with a 80hz setting in the Yamaha and 100 on back of my subs for a starting point. I also had to turn up the gain to 80% in the Yamaha before my subs finally "Woke Up" I used the mic and set all on small as others have advised and now I am manual fine tuning with sound level meter. You will be happy with that Yamaha for a long time. Make sure you have plenty of vent space above it, I have fans and opened up the back of my cabinet. Enjoy.
