How big a room are you planning to put them in and how loud do you intend to play them? Looking at the brochure, I would say you are ok as long as the room size isn't overly large and you won't be playing them at concert levels. Their rated senstiivty is 90db which is on the higher side of average which means it won;t take much power to make them sing loud. I would stay away from the RX-8 however as its nominal impedance is 4 ohms.

The room is 20 x 18 (the ceiling has a triangle shape that goes from 8 to 12) and I'll be using it mostly for movies, playing it loud but not sooo loud... the speakers are: Monitor Audio Silver RX6 / RX Centre / RXFX / RXW-12.
My plan is to get the RX-V667 now and latter upgrade it (moving it my kids' playroom)... do you think it could work reasonably well for let's say 1 year?...

I think you'll be Ok since you'll be augmenting your speakers with a sub. I would not crank teh volume past halfway hough just to be safe. That way you'll be assured that the Yamaha stays out of clipping which will save your speaer from damage. I would also ensure you have plenty of ventilation for the receiver. Don't box it in where it can't get decent airflow. If you find that you still don't have enough power, you could also buy a 2 or 3 channel amp to help out with the left/right fronts and center channel using the pre-outs of the Yamaha.

I think you'll be more than happy with the receiver for a year, and it's certainly not something you'd want to hide away in a children's playroom.

My main speakers are ~90dB efficient and play quite loud without distortion. With a sub, you should have no problem filling that space. Just make sure to utilize the YPAO automatic correction/tuning when everything is set up in your room, and ensure the crossover frequency works well with all of your speakers (since you cannot control the crossover independently for each speaker).
