Yamaha Receiver needs both HDMI and analog/digital connections!

When I connect any input audiovisual device (BluRay, DVD, Digital Cable, etc) to my Yamaha Receiver RX-V365 all with HDMI cables, there is no sound coming out from the receiver, sound comes only from the TV speakers.

The instructions manual says that to fix this you have two choices: a) to make a digital or analog connection besides the HDMI, or, b) to mute the volume of the video monitor.

Well now, I cannot choose option "a)" because I have a device that has HDMI output (sound+video of course) but doesnt have digital audio jack, and I dont want to use the analog stereo jacks because I wouldnt be able to enjoy my 5.1 surround.

I tried with option "b)", but muting the TV or bringing its volume down just makes no audio coming from the TV, but still cant hear anything from my receiver.

Does anyone have an idea to solve my issue?? Buying a new receiver or device is not an option for myself rigth now

Your receiver cannot handle mch PCM (or any audio for that matter AFAIK), via HDMI inputs.

I'm sorry to break the news. You have to use a separate connection, as you are doing, and I recommend S/PDIF (optical or coax) if only for possibly more flexibility with bass mgmt and/or post processing.

You are basically at the lowest end of the totem pole of receivers, and unfortunately, the HDMI inputs only serve as video switching really.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. An optical from Monoprice is like $2.

Low end receivers with HDMI usually only have an HDMI switch, not a repeater, therefore you need to run a digital audio connection if you want audio.
