Yamaha receiver dim display

I have had this yamaha rx v800 receiver and it's always had a dim display and i've always wanted to know why it is dim the brightness is at full but very dim I have the bigger brother rx v1000 and it has a very bright display compared to to the rx v800 how would i fix this i've done lots of research but not finding much on how to fix this? This is a very common issue when buying used yamaha receivers i've bought other yamaha receiver with the same issue as far as I heard it's a capacitor that turns it dim but I have no clue what one it might be I have had the unit torn apart looking for the very issue but had no luck figuring out what is causing it any help?

Did you ever figure out the source of the issue to resolve it? I have a RX-V2400 with the same dim display issue.....

I pulled up that unit and found this page for you. I would check the capacitors on the "power (2) P.C.B." Also check out this other page I found with someone who reccomended capacitor replacement for the RX-V3900 - https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=103447

I did find the service manual yesterday too from the same website, and read through the schematic pages, although with my limited electronics skills, I could not zero in to where and which capacitors would be the likely suspect(s), just going through registration there to read up.

I had to chuckle with name of the bad capacitor forum!

I did find the service manual yesterday too from the same website, and read through the schematic pages, although with my limited electronics skills, I could not zero in to where and which capacitors would be the likely suspect(s), just going through registration there to read up.

I had to chuckle with name of the bad capacitor forum!
I believe you could replace all the capacitors with stars on them (Shown on the page I linked). These caps are ones that I suspect for failure. I believe this is why they are marked with a star. Although, that is only my assumption. I personally use a capacitance meter and measure the UF (microfarad rating) for each cap and see if they are within 10% of their original value. This tells me if they need to be replaced other than obvious damage to them, just by looking (Bulges in the top, splits in the sides of them, leakage, etc). Not all signs of failure are visual. Hope all goes well with your repair! Just remember, it does not matter if you can't fix something or feel that you failed. It matters that you tried and learned some new things along the way. =)
