My reciever only has left and right pre out. Should I still buy an amp?

Hello, im looking into buying a external amplifier but my Denon X1800H only has pre outs for left and right channel. Would it be worth it to run my left and right channel speakers on a amp and my center channel on just the receiver? Thanks.

Simple questions: Why do you think you need external amplification? Is your listening room large? At what distance is you listening position from the front speakers? What kind of music do you listen to? How loud do you listen to your music? What speakers are you using for your left and right front channels? Do you hear some sort of distortion?

Usually, it takes only a few watts to drive speakers in a typical home unless the speakers have a low sensitivity, and you listen to music at very high volumes.

I listen to music fairly loud. My main listening position is 10-12 feet away from front speakers. I'm using two Kef Q350's, a Kef Q650C center channel with two Rythmik LV12M's. I was under the impression that adding a external amp would help with speaker efficiency and sound quality. I'm in a semi open floor plan. 10 foot ceilings. Trying to figure it if add a amp to left and right speaker freeing up the AVR amp for just the center will yield any positive results.

Use the following tools to calculate how much power you need. Your QEF speakers can output up to ear bleeding level of 110 dB:
