Yamaha Presence vs Atmos - Physical Placement

Thank you snakeeyes. I'll never pull off front presence but I'll get halfway there.

Btw, does Dolby Surround upmix to those presence speakers when playing 2 or 5.1 channel content? Thanks.
On RXA2060, yes it upmixes in DSU or DTSX for me.

On your receiver I’m not sure if you have DSU to upmix? If not, you might need to use one of the DSP modes like Sci-fi or Adventure (etc) for the Presence (height) speakers to engage. I’m not a huge fan of DSP but I used it back in the day on a RXV3300. That was 6.1 plus 2 front height channels on that one. 8.1 sorta. :)

I run 11.2 on a non Atmos Yamaha started with the recommended placement then fine tuned the angles with them . They are up high next to the ceiling on big shelves. Indeed some dsp sound fields do utilize the heights more . You can go into the individual sound field menu’s and fine tune several things . Although not dedicated Atmos it does work surprisingly well .

Nobody is interested in your fantasy “Future” Home theater. If Dolby has no issue with using up firing “modules,” nobody should be all that concerned with wall mounted Presence speakers used for Atmos.

Some get hyper focused on height speaker placement in rooms that aren’t fit for home theater in the first place. If the f#%kers are on a wall, then the f#%kers are on the wall. Enjoy them. If you are in your parents’ basement using a boom box for home theater, you can just shut the f#%k up.
You are correct mofo. He’s in his mom’s bedroom carrying on about how he will withhold advice from those who won’t, not can’t, follow Dolby’s guide to the nuts. He’s laughed at on avs a lot too. Like who does he think he is.
Obviously some placements are better, but we can only do what we can do.
Cheers! Fukker!
