What is important here is not the price but the sound as well as the features of the unit, you should thoroughly audition both with the speakers of your choice and then come to a decison.

Yes that would be a great idea ....To bad there isnt a way i can audition it other than buying it and there is no cash refund

Also an amp will only sound as good as the speakers there played on ....

Since i own and am looking at another low end amplifier you can guess im on a tight buget ....

see i would like to own another amp ...and well this kinda fits into buget ...would it be worth the buy you think ....price/preformance

my sony i find lacks a little ummmph .....other than that its great ...

im not big on sound feilds ....special efects ....or anything special that a company portrays as enhancements(at lest what sony has to offer in low end) ....what im looking at is raw preformance

the yamaha manual if i read it corectly states this amp is capable of 4ohm loads ..... (i know enough to not care and take a grain of salt with it ....just nice to see a manufacture clarify its abilities ...warrenty reasons)

i like the fact its got 5way binding posts ....my sony is using clips ...errrrk 12gauge wire dont agree to well .....and id also like to use banana plugs instead of loose wire ....

i would like the yamaha to replace my sony is pretty much what im thinking ...
it has the little more preferd features ..... a 6th channel ...even tho im only running 4 ....so if i run the amp in 4 channel or even 5 channel im thinking the power supply should have some clean headroom ....so if i "want" more bass i can turn up the bass and "not worry" about protecting my amp when watching a movie (havent had it happen and want to "avoid" it in long term thinking).....i only like alot of bass in movies just adds more of a theater like feeling ...other than that the amp would be set on prologicII for regular cable tv ....
and my room is kinda big .....27' x 13' x 8' ......

not looking for a huge upgrade ...but something a little more to polish off or round out .....

Since Yamaha's own speakers have 6ohms rating and realisticaly go down to 3ohms under certain conditions, Yamaha receivers do have a genuine low impedance driving capability and you can see that by the size of the transformers used in their receivers.

The point about headroom is that to get realisticaly high headroom from your existing amp, the replacement amp has to produce twice the power and the Yamaha is not rated at twice the output of the SONY. For bass it is better to add a good high powered sub like the Yamaha YST-SW1500 or a Velodyne or Def Tech rather than tax the amp and muddy up your main speakers by feeding them excessive bass.

so as i was thinking about a month ago and get a sub setup ....

but ...ok since i do have a power amp ....a fairly nice one i think

how hard would it be to build a sub ....just a box and sub woofer ...

i was thinking quad car audio subs in boxes ....

2x10" and 2x15" .... i have a pretty radical sub box design ....would like to make it work actualy .....the 10" would be the clairaty sub 30hz up seald ....and the 15" would be directly for spl 40hz and under ported....
