My 6290 won't up convert to 1080p through HDMI from the 480I of the non HD channels on the PVR And won't up convert from 1080I to 1080P!! Any thoughts on no up conversion through HDMI connections.

I'm going to try a couple of things;

- Hook my PVR directly to XBR tv via HDMI and see if any improvement.

- I have my old Yamaha 6090 that I'm going to route things through.

I've been in contact with Yamaha Canada and will keep you posted.

Cheers

It's not designed to upconvert HDMI inputs. Only analog inputs can be upconverted. It's in the manual.

Thanks that is the exact question I asked salesman at F.S.

He said it up converts through all as I told him all my components had HDMI.

Maybe he was confused by two similar terms. In the manual, Yamaha uses "up-conversion" to mean analog to HDMI conversion (which can be scaled or not), and they use "up-scaling" specifically to mean converting from SD to HD resolution.

In the feature list for the 6290 (1900) you'll see "Analog video up-scaling", while the 3900 has "Analog and HDMI video up-scaling".

But your problem of the PVR resolution being changed sounds like the bug that's currently affecting all the new models (1900/3900/Z7). Yamaha may come up with a fix for that eventually.

I've just hooked my Motorola PVR directly to my Sony 46XBR6 via 1.3 HDMI and all my PVR settings remain the same.

I've sent a msg to Paul Bawcett from Yamaha Canada and explained the problem and that it must be the 6290. I want to get this problem resolved before my 30 day BB return policy is over.

Does anyone know if the higher end Denon ($1200-1400 range) receivers have this same problem?

Thanks in advance

As far as I know and have read, there is NO UPCONVERSION through HDMI(digital hdcp). You should try hooking the PVR through COMPONENT(analog) and see if that solves the problem...Upconversion is only available with analog signals...
