I am looking at this receiver. Can anyone briefly tell me the difference in the RX and HTR lines?

Also, if anyone has any experience with the HTR line please give me your opinions.

The HTR line is for mass distribution to big box stores and internet sales. The other line is for small retailers. Models tend to overlap between the two series but the HTR anchors the lowest cost models while the other line covers the most expensive models. The HTRs can be bought over the internet at a substantial discount compared to big box retailers.

I have an HTR-5840 and I have never had a single issue with it. In my experience Yamaha receivers are very reliable and durable. Hope this helps a little.

Yes I like my HTR 5890 too. The only trouble I have had is keeping the presence channel wires in the plastic lever-action retainers. I have to figure out a solution for that but I don’t consider it a big problem.

I saved $150 buying over the internet versus Best Buy so it was appreciably cheaper than the comparable RX receiver.

Oh, there is another difference between the two product lines. HTR receivers have white on black lettering while RX receivers have gold on black lettering.

The RX series does add features at times over the HTR series, such as HD radio and Sirius support, but nothing spectacular. The HTR-6160 is comparable to the RX-V663.
