Yamaha HTR 5840 help!

Hey, I don’t mean to be a damper on the party, but I have a serious issue. I have an HTR 5840, and I have sat for like 3 hours trying to get into set up mode. I follow all the directions, but it is still impossible. It says press “enter” but when I press select/enter on the remote, it does nothing! Issue number 2, when I turn the program to movie mode (adventure) all I hear is surround sound, no speech… does anyone know how to fix this, it’s driving me insane….

Make sure the remote is in 'amp/receiver' mode. It may be a slide switch on the side or have various source buttons labeled things like amp, tuner, cd, etc.

Some of the Yamaha remotes actually use the right arrow key to move through menus instead of 'enter'.

Concerning your second issue:
Make sure your speaker selector is on "A" not "B".

Receiver manual

If you don't have a copy of the receiver manual, you can download one from the Yamaha website. On my 5860 you have to press the Yellow "AMP" button on the remote to use some of the receiver settings including entering the setup.

It might be a good idea to due the receiver reset sequence so you start from scratch when using the setup functions.
