For the new Denon/Marantz ownership, Harman will simplify the situation by using only one new brand name called DERANTZ. :D
Well, they cannibalized Harmon and dropped many of their products, so a combined or an even more delineated segmentation of the brands might very well be coming.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Also, it is an Outlaw 976...I didn't notice the typo in my angst over the meltdown. (My apartment still has a lingering odor of fried electronics) I will definitely look into getting it repaired. It's been very lightly used, and who knows what an Atmos equipped receiver with pre-outs (thanks again,
lovinthehd) for the front speakers will cost next week....
Can you open the unit up and see if there are any power supply capacitors burnt and or have rips in the casings? If so can you read the value on them and the voltage rating? Also take a picture of any areas that look damaged and post them here.

If you can get that information, I would be prepared to fix it for you and probably improve it, so it does not happen again.

Economical current AVR's with pre-outs, and full support for Atmos as well as RoomEQ (Dirac or Audyssey) :

Denon X3800
Onkyo RZ30 / RZ50
Integra DRX 3.4

There have been plenty of sales around with many of the above models being 2 years old now, and refurbs are often an option... these are especially good value used as a semi AVP with fronts powered externally, and the rest of surround/heights powered internally.
