Yamaha HTR-5790 Video Problem

Hello I'm new to the forum, but I hope that someone can help me.
I recently purchase a Yamaha HTR-5790 receiver from BB. I hooked my Sony model 27S35 TV to the Monitor Out on the receiver and my JVC VCR to the VCR IN/Out on my receiver via S-Video connection. I don’t have CableTV, just OTA programming. The problem that I am having is when I am watching TV after about 15 min. the video and audio signal just dies and all I get is a screen filled with snow. So through trial and error I have found that the only way I can watch tv is through my VCR. I have to switch my receiver over to my VCR and change my input on my TV to Video 1. Then, I get a video and audio signal and that is how I been watching TV for the past week. I have checked the connection a thousand times but can’t resolve this issue. Has anyone else experience this problem? Is something wrong with my receiver? I'm at a total lost.

Either way it seems you are watching television with just an antenna input.

Meaning that you can just use your TV without the receiver or send the TV's OUTPUTS to the receiver in order to get the TV audio to go to your speakers.

The VCR is irrelevant. You can certainly feed the VCR through the TV but recording is only going to be accomplished if you use the VCR to receive the OTR signals, not the TV.

My recommendation:

Connect ANTENNA in to VCR and TV (use a splitter)
Connect VCR VIDEO out to TV (audio to receiver)
Connect TV AUDIO out to receiver

Use your receiver or TV to hear audio while watching TV
Use your TV and receiver to play VHS tapes

Wow, I am quite honored, out of everyone on the forum you replied, Thanks.
OK,I may not have been completely clear regarding my setup in my pervious post.
I do have my Antenna connected into my VCR and from VCR to TV.
I do have my TV Audio out to my receiver, and I was using my receiver to hear audio while watching TV.
I was using my TV and receiver to play VHS tapes.
And the problem still persists , after about 15 min the screen goes blank.

Maybe there is something wrong with my TV, I’m going to take it to the repair shop and have them take a look at it.
Again, Thanks very much for replying.

That is how I would set it up so you def. have a hardware problem somewhere not a connection problem.
